Grrr on the 2005 90 ... after 3-4 dry weeks I flick the switch , they move 6" up the screen after a bit of a crack, then stop. Nothing. At all. Changed / checked the fuse in the centre fuse box. Nothing. Screen wash yes. Wipe of any sort, no. So, options? Don't say the relay again the other side of the dash? Might it just be the switch? Why will the wipers not work? Thanks... Sold the much modified 110 2.8, in Oz

Summer time ... it's p...ing down out there. OK thanks, they were locked solid. So graunch graunch brute force to move them a cm, and they unlock and appear to move

I had exactly the same thing last month on a 2005 td5. Get out of the car and manually move them - you might find they spring back into life again! (be gentle with them though, just 'help' them through a cycle)

In that case it is almost certainly a worn wheelbox. Once worn it is possible for them to lock until jiggled. |

Another thing I notice after periods of no use in dry weather is they can stick to the glass.
I tend to free them after a while just to stop that happening. Happens on my rear the most which is where the sun comes in, so it's drier. |

Thanks to the chaps that know for their accurate suggestions.
So, a list of jobs to make and parts to collect (some light switches for front and back, rev guage .. and the full wiper bits) for when the whole flamin dash comes off ... on a couple of sunny days to take my time. Sold the much modified 110 2.8, in Oz Brought the 90 home from Switzerland ... |

I had the same problem, I removed the wheel boxes.
Clamped the box end in a vice Clamped the thread in a drill Turned it at low speed while applying liberal WD40 to basically free up and get any crap out and then gradually increased speed over time. Once they spin very easily by hand I replaced them but made sure it was the fresh unused portion of the pinion that would be used (they only use approx 45% of the wheel max so the rest should be unworn). Also applied lots of grease to them on replacement. Total time for job maybe 2-3 hours. Will Defender 90 XS TD5 (03 Reg) |
