Why weren't stainless caliper pistons standard?

The nickel (?) plating is even chipping off the internal side! (unless I dropped it since removal, but I don't recall doing so).

Are they meant to be a consumable?

And if so, why say to not split the calipers, but then offer internal seal 17H8764L (#14) as a spare:

I cant wait to feel what a defender with pistons working on both sides of each caliper actually drives like.

Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

You don't need to split the calipers to change the pistons, Zeus make stainless pistons so hopefully once done it should be set for many years- and yes it makes a big difference to straight line stopping!!

Changing everything because corrosion would have presumably damaged the seals.

The only way to get the seized one out was to split...

I think the quality of the plating has gone down significantly recently. I just had all of my pistons and seals changed on my 2007 110. I used Zeus stainless steel pistons and genuine seals and don't think the cost was any greater all genuine.

They don't seem to advertise them on their website any more but if you call they will sort you out out.

Mine were so bad I elected to chuck a set of new AP calipers at it. Any ideas on what I can do to protect/lubricate the standard pistons to make them last?

Quality of coatings has gone down because they are now using environmentally friendly processes. Chrome plating and similar is horrific for the environment and those working around it
