Is the gaiter part of the carpet on the transmission tunnel, or does the carpet come out separately?

Carpet comes out over and around. Once out the gaiter just lifts upwards. They are separate.
Just need the matting or carpet out first. |

I did it. Removing the carpet was the way to go, made the job a lot easier.
I drove 200 miles today, and it's amazing how quiet everything is. The effect is profound. I'd estimate that at least two thirds of the driving noises are gone. Just amazing! |

Does this eliminate vibration from the gear stick or just the vibration noice? First time I've owned a defender and I feel like I'm going to develop carpal tunnel from the gearstick!

It eliminated the vibration noises. Which were plentiful, as I notice - now, that it's all quiet.

Remember you shouldn't drive holding the gearstick anyway - mentioned in the manual. |

I'm getting the same rattle issue but the vehicle is still under warranty so I am loathed to do anything that will compromise it. Does anyone know, is LR aware of the problem and the fix. I have put my 110 into the dealership on four occasions for the rattle and nothing seems to have been done to cure it. Whats broken now ?

They probably grease it instead.
Mention this fix to them and under warranty and hopefully they'll see sense. No doubt they will need a step by step tutorial though. |

I get the vibration noise, but only under towing load conditions, its been in to the dealer twice for it. It goes in and comes out, with report that no noise on road test (not towing), strange, as Ive always said it never does it when solo!
Prior to its last visit I mentioned this fix and that surely there is a data base of faults/fixes in JLR somewhere. It came back again with no noise reported on road test (not towing again). They say they don't have any trailers to test it. Frustrating. The simple answer would be to test drive (me), with them, when towing............but my dealer makes nothing simple, except endless mistakes, they are good at those. I have a trip to South of France coming up, towing, so Ill have that vibration noise all the way there and back again. When I get back I'm off to a closer dealer with my trailer, when time and commitments allow. |

On mine, I can comment regarding trailer as I've only towed after this fix.
However, before I did this fix I used to get the vibration in 6th gear. Not at all other than that but in 6th for some reason. Last edited by custom90 on 15th Jul 2016 6:12pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Thanks to this thread I got rid of my gear stick vibes. Was worst under heavy load in 6th, such as gradients on the motorway. I used Araldite on the weights, all sorted. Worst part was getting the gear stick back inside the gaiter.
