I've only had 3 but I would say No.
Time for some diagnostics I'd say. But first check the obvious re dirty filters, weak or damaged turbo hoses, oil in ECU loom etc. |

Thanks for reply bm52...filters (all) are changed every year with genuine filters!
No oil in loom last time I checked but have not looked at turbo hoses so will do that. |

Depends when you're changing gear, there's nothing to be gained by revving a stock td5 right to the limiter!

^^^ I'm with Miker. Sounds like you're going too high up thr rev range and entering the point at which the power curve tapers. Td5s should be driven much like a local cab driver conserving fuel. i.e. shifting relatively quickly with the revs per gear kept nice a low. It's certainly no highly tuned, high revving 10,000rpm Ariel Atom engine the Td5. Monsieur Le Grenadier

Maybe I should back off a bit on the hard driving and acceleration
Otherwise it drives well but I have had previous vehicles that didn't do this and had a smoother response. |

I misread.
As said....use the torque not the revs ☺ |

Most people think that they still like to be wrung out a bit to keep them healthy, but the power tails off quite low. It's one of the reasons I want a rev counter on mine!

I've got a rev counter on my TD5.
The engine will rev past 4,000 and is still smooth. But there's not really any point. As already said it's not really that kind of vehicle. Better to change gear at lower RPM. The torque peak is at under 2,000 rpm on the TD5. I'll try it out today and see what the speeds are in gears at 4,000 rpm. |

I also get some vibration through the accelerator pedal when booting it

The whole trick vibrates whether I'm booting it or not, it's a standard feature

Mine was a lot smoother after l had the ECU reset by my local Land Rover dealer.
It cost £125 but was well worth it. They installed the last software update applicable to the TD5, probably issued in late 2006? Before the ECU reset it was rough when revved up, with vibration through the gear lever. Although the actual performance was alright. This procedure will also remove any remap, so if yours has one you would need to get it re-installed afterwards. |

Peak power on a td5 isn't until 4200rpm and rev limiter at 4800 rpm.
Certainly should rev smoothly and cleanly easily to 4k, td5's like to be revved to get the most out of them. It low down torque where they lack, in standard form anyway 2003 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Belize Green - "Betty" 1958 Series IIA 109 Station Wagon - "Randolph" - Awaiting Restoration 2019 Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon - SOLD 2006 Volvo V70 D5 - Ocean Race Edition, SOLD 2003 VW Passat Estate 1.9TDI - SOLD 2008 BMW 320D M Sport Estate - SOLD 2001 Defender 90 Td5 Hard Top - SOLD |
