I think I am thrashing mine if I take it to 3000 RPM 😋

Peak torque on a standard TD5 is at just under 2,000 rpm with 90% available at 1500rpm.
So it's not necessary to rev it much past about 2,000 rpm in normal driving.

However on hills it needs 2500-3,000 rpm to avoid bogging down when you change up.

When remapped it's no longer necessary to hit 3,000 rpm through the gears. I could change up at 2,000 and it would still pull strongly.

With remapped TD5 in D2, a bit over weight on the trip - like 3200kg, and a bit bigger tires, there is normally no need to go over 3000 RPM, only in case of overtaking. It is for short time, with some smoke generation, but not a problem to go to a bit over 4000 RPM. Without this, I'll have to stay behind the slow trucks for very long time. Without remap, I can switch between standard and remap with running engine, the car is undrivable, and overtaking nearly impossible. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo
