Couldn't get the picture to work here is a link to it - http://prnt.sc/by5hq2
The garage want to do the full leg extension cross member as I think that is easier to do. I know of blacksheep spoke to clive original but it looked like it was going to make it until this bracket came off. |

Just copy the url from your gallery:
Click image to enlarge While the tub is off I would replace it. Black Sheep seems way better than standard ones. It looks pretty rough, probably more that you can't see too. I'd replace it personally, especially if you do any towing.

Yup, bodge it as cheaply as possible for as many years as your friendly MOT man will wear it, start saving for a new chassis... Peter |

The rest of the x member is pretty solid apart from surface rust. No welding at all on the chassis or needed (yet). I could have them patch this rear cross member and wait a 6 months/1 year to re-coup some funds before having the job done. Or just bite the bullet and throw another £500 quid at it, starting to wish I had bought a tidy example now having ended up re building this from scratch.

Bite the bullet and just get it changed. Patching it is just a temporary sticking plaster and more money before the inevitable. From what can be seen the remainder looks treated and tidy. You already have the tub off so the preparation is all but done. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

The garage said they would only do it using this type of rear crossmember with extensions, as it is easier I think.
http://www.paddockspares.com/rear-x-member...sions.html Does anyone see an advantage to this over just a normal Blacksheep crossmember install ? |

I know nothing about them but the part number seems to be an 'Allmakes' product?
http://www.ribblevalley4x4.com/allmakes/AM_LR611.html There's also this option at half the cost if the rest of the chassis is ok? http://www.ribblevalley4x4.com/category-30/LR613.html Blacksheep have excellent reviews about their rear crossmembers, I am hard pushed to find any about Allmakes on the forums available. That is what I am trying to establish if there is any advantage using the more expensive part that goes right back. The chassis is fine along that area. They are saying it is difficult to get an even cut or something doing it with just the rear cross member itself.
Other than it is just easier for the garage. As I can take it somewhere else and have it done with the cheaper part like you mention |

Based on feedback alone I'd go Blacksheep anyway if the vehicle is a keeper. Depends on your circumstances and perhaps the depth of your pockets?
As the paying customer if the crossmember without the extensions is beyond their capability I'd be looking elsewhere to get the job done. Why should you pay double just because they don't have the confidence, tools or acumen to do it? Tell them to 'kiss your swingers' and find someone that can fit the bill. Yeh I will have a frank conversation when I head down there shortly. Trouble is my land rover is in hundred pieces all around their workshop!
