90 dynamat soundproofing kit? - dynamat
Hello All,

Im considering buying a Dynamat Extreme soundproofing kit for my 1994 90 CSW .

Ive been quoted £310 for the full rear load area, footwells, seatbox and puma bonnet sections.

My question is - would it be a lot better to buy the dynamat megapack from Dynamat Europe for £330 for 6.68sq meters? Im unsure how much floor section i would need to do the lot and im away from my landy for the next couple of days! Alternatively dynamat do a bulk pack which covers 3.3sq meters @ £166.

Obviously buying the kit pre-cut would be a lot easier however it doesnt cover the footwells completely.

Any help/experience would be great! - i cant seem to find how much i need to cover the old 90's.

Thanks
Dom

Hello

I'm unsure how much you need to cover the areas you say. I'm using Silent coat and a 6mm soft cell padding and doing it myself.

For a 110 XS I had some quotes and most £1200 upwards... its mainly labour as not a hard job.

So far I've spend around £200 on 2 bulk packs of Silent coat, and a 5M roll of soft sell foam, roller, tape etc

One box of the bulk pack covered the rear load area including up the sides to the start of the windows and the rear arches. Also the two front door inners, under the drivers footwell and 3/4 of the rear passenger footwell at which point I've opened a new box. I'm surprised at how far a pack has gone.

I'm also covering more of the car than the OE carpet covers so will add some extra carpet to cover the it. It depends on your time I guess? I don't like paying for stuff I can at least have a go at. its really easy to work with, and use a roller to squash it down. My biggest difference so far it the front doors, they shut more like a normal car and not a tin can Smile

For your £330 I would probably have covered the whole inside, bonnet and roof but my labour is free and I'm enjoying doing it. I'm also lucky and can work under a carport with the doors open in the bad weather Smile

It does not sound too bad (joke there somewhere), dynamat it more expensive to start with. Thing is doing it yourself you know what you have done and can check the condition of the bolts etc after you remove the carpets. I cleaned all the areas I'm about to fit the stuff and even rust proofed the bolts etc before apply the matting on top...

Tools etc

Double-0, likely to follow your choice of materials. Out of interest, where are you putting the 6mm soft cell? Everywhere or have you been recommended key areas? Also, what have you done with the roof? Silent coat or something else? Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Hello

I've not put 6mm foam in on the doors but I have all over the back so far including arches,

Roof I will use silent coat I'm more than happy using it and very easy to use.

If I take the door panels off again I may add foam, no harm?

The only trouble making everywhere so thick is it becomes hard putting stiff back together as its about 8mm thicker. Fitted a new Stainless boot sill with longer screw this evening.

Likeomg dd you use 5 x bulk packs? that seems a lot have you side windows?

Thanks for that info Double-0 ! I did look into soft cell etc. however i have heard this can hold moisture very easily! and the carpets that im waiting on (exmoor) can hold a maximum of 4mm thickness underneath them. Hopefully i can still get a door sill on the rear!

I've managed to haggle the price down a little on the dynamat so looks like that will be the best option!

I will update when i have completed the job Smile

Cheers,
Dom

Thanks Double-O. Will speak to Sound Deadening and see what they say as a DC offers up unique challenges vis a vis the rear bulk head etc. Ta Thumbs Up

And yes, I'm about 45 mins from Annecy and indeed will be there on Friday with Mrs Grenadier blowing exorbitant amounts on sofas, money which could have been well spent on the Defender or even mapping her TT... Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

Stacey007 - Out of interest, when you did the doors, did you remove the frame work or can you get the Silent Coat all the way to the top with just the door card removed? Hope that makes sense.
