Searching Defender2, I've seen good advice as well as some incorrect answers.
Here is my brief summary: Anti-seize compounds are typically grease base plus an added powder. Copper Copaslip and the like. Good protection for steel. Inexpensive. Wide temperature range, up to 2000F. Do NOT use with stainless steel. Aluminum Good for stainless. DO NOT use with steel. Nickel Good for both steel and stainless steel. Very wide temperature range, -292F to +2192F for Weicon Anti-Seize. Nickel is a carcinogen. Wear gloves. Non-metalic Many types: Graphite, Ceramic and others. Some are non-toxic and can be used in food applications. Good for all metal types. Some are very expensive. Loctite 8009 is graphite and calcium fluoride. Weicon high-tech is a metal-free food grade anti seize. Back in my truck mechanic days, it used to annoy me when people used copper grease on battery posts!
They would lather it on with a paint brush, then we used to get CAN BUS issues due to shorting between battery posts! Not really relevant to your post but thought someone may learn from it  My 1986 90 is currently on a full rebuild, with new chassis, Paint etc.. Very much a hybrid, TD5 Chassis, tub & bulkhead with a 200TDI and LT77 GB Painted in Stornoway Grey  2 years off the road, but getting close to completion now |

A couple of notes about Loctite products:
LB 8150, 8151 and 8060 aluminum assembly pastes are not recommended for stainless steel. LB 8007, 8008 and 8065 are general purpose copper assembly pastes. Do not use with stainless. LB 8009, 8023 8013 and 8014 are metal free, recommend for stainless and good to use with aluminum and soft metals. Some of these are very expensive. What about the two specific products often mentioned here?
Duralac and Berner paste which comes (came?) with the Nakatanenga stainless bolt kits  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I've never used Duralec. I'll admit to some American bias. (working on it)
Google found the data sheet: http://www.llewellyn-ryland.co.uk/downloads/duralac.pdf Looks be very different than the anti-seize assembly compounds. It is barium chromate in an elastic resin. Does it have any lubricant properties, or is it an anti-corrosion sealant like a paint? Zinc Chromate anti-corrosion primers have been around forever, at least in the US. Barium chromate is a less toxic alternative. (perhaps required in the UK???) |

Looked up Berner Anti-Seize 147741.
It is soft grease (NLGI 1-2) mixed with zinc powder. Temperature range is -40 to +1100C They call it a high-performance assembly paste and say it is ideal for stainless steel screws.

The BERNER or identical NORMFEST stuff is the most practical for stainless application. We never had any issues with it and it is really sticky compared to copper paste. WANTED:

I think duralac is for galvanic corrosion not anti sieze as it sets like concrete and is better for separating panels rather than for nuts and bolts... I'm sure others will differ but that's life |

- Multi-purpose lithium grease is always good to have and can be used on almost any application (not Extreme Pressure systems though!). Im an engineer on ships so greasing systems is a huge part of my job (insert sailor joke).
- Copper Slip is fine to use on stainless steel bolts and aluminium. However its only to be used on non moving parts with high temperature/static pressure applications (water pump bolts for example) People have these misconceptions with a lot of greases (which usually stem from the marine industry) as salt water can cause corrosion between these, even still i see it happen all the time on ship still with no problems. The effects are negligible - infact i guarantee you will not have a problem with copper slip on aluminium/stainless. Ive never worked with nickel so i cant comment on that - Dont be a grease nazi and only grease things which need to be greased - Duralac is not an antiseize its only used between dis-similar metals Pop me a PM if you need any more info

Is the berner stuff designed to be both anti seize and anti galvanic corrosion paste?or is it just anti seize with the bonus of that it may also work as a corrosion preventative as well. Ps I've looked at the data sheet and it has not been tested for conductivity.... So it's just a anti seize paste..... I will stick with ceremic as it does both jobs in one tin.....i am leaning towards the thought that any product that puts a barrier between the bolt ss bolt and the Ali panel will do the job so berner will probably be ok ...but I personally won't put dura lac on nuts and bolts! |

Ceramic grease on my wheel hubs. Totally metals free, so no risk for issues of alloy contacting with steel hubs.
Click image to enlarge And for all the rest (mainly door screws, bumper screws, etc.) I use the high tech metals free Weicon paste which is anti seizure and anti corrosion. Also metals free, and the best thing about this one is that it never will harden up, even after years. So if after a long time you have to undo a door screw or so, piece of cake, will not have rusted, will not have seized solid. I learned about this one from someone I consider a real guru as to Defenders and classic car restaurations in general. I even put that Weicon paste on things like the bonnet catch to avoid that with time something in the mechanism might seize up.
