Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

After using the BERNER or identical paste for over 15 years and we never had any issues with galvanic corrosion, i would say it is more than just anti-seize.

couple of months ago i have met the car in which one of our first SS-bolt kits was fitted about 12 years ago. NO sign of corrosion! WANTED:

Could you elaborate on this please? Reasoning & outcomes would be useful.

Sure,

It is in the references in the original post.

Copper base anti-seize offers good corrosion protection on all kinds of steel, but not stainless steel. Copper on stainless steel creates an inter-crystaline corrosion, which can make actual stainless steel parts crack and break. This is why the nuclear power plants do not allow copper with any material which comes in contact with the stainless steel parts.

To be fair, Depac make a metal free anti-seize.

Molyslip make Copaslip, but recommend their nickel based product for stainless:

Loctite make several copper based products and they are not recommended for stainless steel.

It is in the applications details chart in the middle of this pdf:

Laughing I'll stick to Vegimite.

Weicon AS contains nickel and is both toxic and a carcinogen. Weicon High-Tech is not as nasty. I still wouldn't eat it.

I really should get a tub of the High-Tech or similar. They are fine for all applications except extreme high temperatures and much better for our health.

Peter your personal insight and anacdotal experience of use of the berner paste probably points to the fact that any barrier paste even lithium grease or vasaline of honey for that matter may do to prevent galvanic corrosion if it keeps the moisture out ........but others experience or use may be different to yours and i would prefer to buy and use stuff that states on the tin that its designet to be anti seize and anti galvanic corrosion paste.............if you look a tthe berner data sheet it states it has not been tested for conductive properties so on that basis i am out..........I know you stick that paste in with your ss bolt kits and you have many years using it and that fine and dandy but many others on here will state that they have also used copaslip for years on their defender bolts and nuts (SS ans well) and have had no corrosion but i would personally prefer not to use copaslip as the idea of shoving a copper based grease between ss and ali just feels wrong!

Normfest BMP == Bremsenmontagepaste which translates to brake assembly paste.

The English language catalog says it is copper paste. Page 13 of the first reference.

The German data sheet says it is a blend of soft metals and is silver coloured.

Nakatanenga say both Berner and Normfest BMP work and I'm not going to question their experience.

Unless Nakatanenga say otherwise, I'm going to use Weicon AS since I already have it.

You mention "personal insight and anacdotal experience" as negative, and "a copper based grease between ss and ali just feels wrong" as positive.

Ok, your point of view.....

The Normfest is silver colour, not golden.

Normfest is the producer, Berner (like Würth) a large distributor with own brand.

We never tried Weicon but we have personal insight and anacdotal experience from some customers that it was doing no harm to their nuts......

If is it silver, it should be fine (copper free)

The english catalog is probably a translation error. (Translator was given the wrong text or some such)
