The no Tax disc is a failure as huge losses mount up.
The amount of vehicle excise duty collected from motorists fell by more than 200m in the six months after the tax disc was abolished, figures show.
People think that it now easier to defraud the system figures released today suggest.

Another failure by Osbourne
And I think it fair to say to Osbourne we all told you so

A system that was supposed to save money is now it turns out costing the country a huge amount of revenue. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

The Bi Annual Mot would be ignored and the queues for the Autoroute tolls unworkable, you just have to see the freeflow Dartford tunnel as an example! Cheers Don.

Dunno how you have arrived at that one? How does not having a tax disc in your windscreen evade the law? You either tax or sorn.... if you sorn and drive watch out you will be caught!! with your pants right down on the floor!! Anyone these days could create a tax disc that looks as good as an original. I'm backing George on this one a great Cheshire MP and a brilliant Chancellor!!

I believe the Police have number plate recognition devices on their traffic cars for catching those who Sorn their vehicles and keep driving. Saying that, you can't argue at the figures? I suppose if you drive local on the side roads, the chances of getting a Police car behind you with APNR must be very small?

I like this idea because the more you drive, the more you pay, sounds fair to me... “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique.

I would agree with this also. No real way of evasion unless you are nicking the fuel Mr. Green

The real reason why revenue is down is owing to the fact that you can now pay monthly for your tax which made a huge difference in the revenue collected in a 6 month period. it will be some time before the overall figures fall back into line, but that doesn't make headlines

It has always seemed logical to me to put the vat up to cover the tax disc revenue and then you don't impact on vat registered businesses ( and the economy ) but you still get the same revenue . It has been many many years since the link between "road " tax has had anything to do with roads anyway.

It is quite a green way to tax as well as the more you use the more you pay and if you have a big V8 but only do 2000 miles a year then the environmental argument is mitigated. If you have a little 650cc fiat but cover 100,000 miles a year you pay for the polluting as you go.

The downside is it does impact on rural economies but there must be ways to offset that and most businesses ( particularly vat registered ones ) already pay tax on profits. HR064 Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response

There is one born every minute. Wink Smile

Sadly there is a very good possibility that when the referendum reaches its conclusion then you are going to be a very upset Cheshireite Laughing as no matter what the outcome of the EU vote the knives will be out for Cameron. If we happen to vote to leave Cameron and Osbourne will be finished. As we all know at least sixty MPs a figure that appears to be rising daily are prepared to motion a no confidence vote on the PM and if he goes his not so clever chancellor will go with him. Personally I will be glad to see the back of the un-dynamic pair of Estonian bully boys. Whistle

Just out of interest how much time does Georgy boy Osbourne spend in Tatton, very little with what I am told. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Never mind bashing poor George when I explained why revenue is down because of being able to pay monthly how come we didn't hear a cheer instead? Helping the ordinary person to balance their budgets better, instead of paying up front? Come on give credit where its due.

I have to say, I'm well impressed with the DVLA of late

Bought + transferred a private reg, all online
Transferred ownership of 2 cars, both online
Check the MOT history of both cars before purchase
Cars purchased can be taxed at the roadside (though the new rules are a bit backwards Rolling Eyes )

Never thought I would say that, even though some services can only be done online during working hours Confused
