Interesting point about the reduced income from RFL.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that of the 2.63m cars registered last year, an estimated 70% were zero road tax..... probably find that's the reason there is less money going in rather than taking a move forward into the 21st Century and spinning it into something political Rolling Eyes

Oh and the reason why you have to have a conforming registration plate is so the ANPR cameras can read them. And ANPR is not just in traffic cars. They are in VOSA & DVLA cars and finally other police cars - although primarily these are not looking for VED dodgers, the data is collected and uploaded back to the central database. So you might not even see the car that picked you up until you get the fine.

Useful/interesting reading: *edit - no it's not, I just read it, it's useless Laughing New project and it's green: www.projectoverland.info

Don't forget there are many static ANPR camaeras too, and several towns and cities now cannot be entered without driving past a camera. The 'ring of steel' round the City of London is but one example.

However ANPR will not detect those who clone the plates off a similar vehicle, a practice which I suspect is becoming more widespread.

Very nice to read informed opinions and facts instead of blaming the Chancellor who no doubt was given the advice to scrap the Tax disc by the DVLA after lots of research into efficiencies.
