Since this thread has been resurrected... Has anybody used one of these Fabbri Gringo 2? I've been looking at them and like them as they look really easy to fit and look like you might be able to still open the rear door with the bikes on? However Amazon reviews seem suggest they put too large a load on the back door?
Anyone got any comments? Guys - any idea if this rack would be compatible with 18 inch wheels?
Looks like a good solution but the images show the upright bars very close to the outside diameter of the wheel. Would the bars rub against an 18 inch wheel or do the tyres push the bars away from the wheel? |

Guys quick question. I just bought one of these and i don't seem to have enough length on the cables to 'cross' them behind the spare wheel and then pull them up on to the hooks.
If i don't cross the cables behind the wheel it will just about fit with the ratchet on the lowest possible setting. Is this right? I'm running 265 wide tyres same as the original poster. |

Thanks for the reply. I was a little concerned that without being able to cross the cables it might be a little insecure.
There is just enough length on the cable to tighten it up without crossing them. I was going to use two heavy duty climbing carabiners to extend the length so I could cross the cables. Does seem like a great bit of kit, shame the cables are not about 5cm longer! |

Photos of rack installed and loaded please
![]() Do you both have standard doors or with a spare wheel carrier? OK I know you might not want to, but can you open the door with the bikes fitted? Thank you. ![]() MY2012 110 2.2TDCi XS SW Orkney Grey - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic43410.html MY1990 110 200TDi SW beautifully faded Portofino Red - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post743641.html#743641 MY1984 90 V8 Slate Grey - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post744557.html#744557 Instagram @suffolk_rovers |

I'll get you some photos. I have a Mantec wheel carrier. I was happy that it will easily take the additional weight. The reviews on Amazon suggest that the rear door may vibrate without a wheel carrier. The other guys might be able to comment on that.

Thanks Jim_Bean, would be appreciated. I'd read those reviews, hence my question really.

My review of the Fabbri Gringo Bici 2 Bicycle Carrier
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002RA...&psc=1 So here is my 110 with the rack attached and loaded : ![]() Click image to enlarge The bike rack sits on top of the tyre and the two metal straps run around the back and hook up on the front. I run 265 wide tyres and there wasn't quite enough length on them so I used two heavy duty Steel Spring Snap Hooks. These: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00NIN...&psc=1 ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Here you can see how the rack fits on the wheel and where the straps sit: ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge I have a Mantec wheel carrier so all the weight of the wheel/tyre and the bike and rack are taken of the back door (one of the best things I ever bought). Because of this I am happy to be able to open the back door completely even with the bikes on the rack: ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge The rack sits nicely on the back and doesn't stick out much either side : ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge The rack does not come with a trailer board but it does obscure the number plate and lights : ![]() Click image to enlarge I bought a standard trailer board : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004NC...&psc=1 and a couple 'Quick Fist' connectors : https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000CQ...&psc=1 and I can now easily connect the trailer board to the rack but I can also use the board on anything else i'm towing or carrying. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Hope this helps! |
