a loud chucka chucka noise indicates that the EGR is starting to get gummed up, people have had varying degrees of success by removing the EGR and cleaning it, others simply replace for piece of mind. Then again others opt for it to be electronically shut and just the cleaning cycle to remain on to allow freedom of movement of the EGR if it needs to be activated for tighter emissions laws in the future.

sorry I didn't make it very clear - the chukkas were always there (normal and not loud, in fact same tone since new) but the addition of a click at the end of the cycle is the recent thing so I wondered if that could be an issue. Thanks Roy

not sure about that one sorry, i had mine replaced under warranty due to the loud chucka chucka. The only real way to see if there is a problem with it would be to have some diagnostics plugged in while running. I have an Ultra gauge which indicates many parameters of the engine, one of which is EGR flow so i can see if it is operating as it should

Did you have your car in for service lately? There is a reprogram of the EGR, where you will have a click after the three chakkas. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

Thanks for the replies
I'll have a go at cleaning it as there is plenty of advice here. As regards servicing, oils and filters are done by me - all oils every year. Thankfully I have found a good indy locally who can do the tricky things ! . |
