I'd say that's the bias spring clicking against the bias plate, nothing to worry about. Nearly necessitated a gearbox strip down on my first Td5.....

It will be the latch that prevents you inadvertently changing from 5th to reverse resetting itself. It is a normal feature of the R380 box.
I had exactly the same question when I bought my TD5 Disco. |

Mine is an Ashcroft rebuild from December and does it. Never investigated it but always assumed it was a bias plate/springy thing moving.

Thanks guys. Any idea why it has just started doing it? Had the landy 2 weeks and before it was fine. Can it be fixed? It's very irritating?

I'd be more worried if it didn't do it. It's meant to. To get access to it you need to remove the gearbox and strip out the rear housing.

Thanks guys. I'm probably not explain it properly. It sounds like an electric arc? I have had the truck 2 weeks and it didn't do it when I bought it?

That click is definitely an inbuilt design to prevent you going from 5th to reverse. Is it possible that, in the first two weeks of ownership you just didn't notice it, but now that you're aware of it, it's more noticeable? Be assured, it SHOULD do it.
Jon. Defender 90 TD5 CSW - The longer I own it, the newer it gets!! |
