Jommara - Yes, I have noticed a difference, more oomph off the mark. Nothing to get excited about but there's definitely a pick up in revs and turbo quicker than before. I did the mod ages ago, made an improvement but couldn't finish it properly without taking the whole box out which I didn't do. The last few days whilst it was out I finished that off to whilst at it. Some will argue it makes no difference, I think it does. I took out the rain separator and the sections you can see, Dremel hot knife on soldering iron did the trick. Mind you outside only! Toxic fumes to be avoided. There are other solutions for sealing the pipe work, such as that from D44, nugget stuff etc. But costs more and more and more and I haven't got days to spend on it so I'm happy enough as is myself. Fitted my Safari snorkel now, all good. Nearly got caught out by the damn top nut access. Luckily I had an extension bar with the sealant wet. Otherwise I'd have been in a sticky situation! The drain hole with the rubber bung in I never even knew was ever there. I've sealed the lot on mine bar the one drain hole, the smaller one in the bottom of the airbox. |

Checked the link, it works but is taking a while to load...
Did you do anything to the engine electrics or the accelerator pedal? I have a 2.2 and have been told that no matter what I do, water will wreck the engine even with a sealed RAI/Snorkel - I still want to try through |

No I didn't, don't intend to wade it.
However, I like to know it's there if I needed it, there's breathers etc but I doubt I'll ever do that. Main likelyhood would be water splash up the side, which it would prevent. Also stops dirt and rubbish coming in through some of the drain holes. One day I might buy a rubber bung for the airbox bottom, and keep in in my 90. That way most the time I could keep it out and if ever it was needed could just put it in I've mainly done the sealing to do the job once, and do it properly rather than seeking a 100% sealed set up. You've got to bear in mind it's a good idea to still keep one drain hole in or you could create a drain of the whole thing making the airbox like a fish tank. At least now it's all sealed I know where the only drain hole will be and its accessable. (Well as best as you'll get.) Like you say, I agree same for mine but you like me still want to do the job properly. It is at least better and more protected and will,never be a boat. |
