Any of the above, they are all awesome and I would go for what suits you best. I have gone for the Td5 Alive (Alive tuning) ATRIC as I am a Discovery owner and have heard the best things ever about the company and I am constantly traveling (Live half the time in Germany) so being able to remotely re-map my car is ideal for me. I haven't heard any bad press about the other two either. Glyn |

remaps aren't for me. i'm often in remote places and I dont want to have an issue due to someone messing with the software. a defender isnt an aerodynamic shape anyway, so I kind of dont see the point in trying to improve its performance when the torque and acceleration are more than adequate (for me)

Yeah if people want to do it thats cool, it's just not for me. Just as some people wouldnt put airlockers in or fix winches etc its whatever you want to use it for, that's one of the fantastic things about defenders, they're so adaptable.

I've got a 190bhp IRB tune in my Td5 (and also got a 140bhp allisport one i was playing with). Both went well, although the IRB is much smoother (to be honest, i think the allisport one was from a discovery... i "borrowed" it from a friends ECU when i had a nanocom in my hands... )
I'm sure the other makes of tune are just as good, but I like Ian, get on well with him and trust him 100%. |

I'll second diesel_jim's recommendation for Ian at IRB. He's a perfectionist and really wants to make sure you've got what you need from a remap and will let you try different maps to suit your taste and requirements.
In fact I was so impressed with his work that I shelled out for a VNT turbo to replace my 150k one. Ian has made a custom map for my TD5/VNT after trying a few in different situations (towing etc) and it's smooth, hardly any smoke and has loads of torque at low revs. I didn't want a rocket ship - just loads of torque for towing and Ian fully understood that and made it all work perfectly. Well recommended. Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi |

I have to agree, Ian @ IRB Developements is a perfectionist especially in his mechanical work and takes extra time where and when needed, he knows what he is doing and always wants to do his best
Its also nice to read about the smoothnes. I do my best to keep all the files i make as smooth and driveable as much as i can, and it does help when people like Ian are installing them doing their part of the deal correctly with propper road testing afterwards etc etc which makes my life easer.
