So finished lining the inside of the roof today, really please I've done it

My top tip when doing this is when peeling the backing off hold on to the insulation with a piece of scrap paper that you have already removed because this stuff is really sticky. Once stuck to your hand and fingers you'll tare the backing off trying to remove it!

Dose anybody know what a number on a piece of paper is for found stuck to my roof above the drivers seat??

The new headling should be here tomorrow ready to go in at the weekend Mr. Green

Laurence, did you purchase any extra long fir trees as per my thread?

The new headlining is much thicker and the original ones are too short for the cross centre fixings on the overlap between front and rear sections. This is especially true now you've put the thick sound proofing in.

Also, it's worth drilling out the rear centre rib hole and putting one there to prevent sagging. 2016 D4 HSE

Adam,

Yes I got the same ex long F'Tree's as you did in black and I was going to drill some holes for extra fixings along the center to stop the sagging as well - great minds mate Thumbs Up

I have a large box in the back of my van Mr. Green It arrived this afternoon at work (I took the van in today in anticipation Thumbs Up ) I suspect its from those nice chaps at oemlandrover and contains my new headlining!! I haven't had a chance to get it out yet but I'm heading that way very shortly to retrieve it out the van and in to my dinning room... its like Christmas Cool !!

I'll post some pictures shortly...... 2010 Defender 90 HT

So up early this mornig ready to make a start on fitting the new head lining. Thumbs Up
First job is to put new rivnuts in the rear view mirror housing. When I removed the housing to remove the old headlining all three of the original rivnuts came lose and spun round as I tried to unscrewed the housing making removal difficult - but not impossible! So new rivnuts are needed to screw secure the housing back in

This is the mirror housing

This isn't a hard or expensive job I purchased a rivnut tool for less than £12 and a selection of 100 rivnuts for £5 (the box wasn't included!)

It took me less then 10min to complete the job of fitting new rivnuts in to the housing

Once that was done I unpacked the new headlining... WOW!! Very impressed with this! Great quality product it feels, looks and smells every bit quality... it is an original LR product (from oemlandrover) and has the LR sticker on the back to prove it Thumbs Up

I offered it up to the roof I had to flex it and bend it a bit to get it exactly where I wanted it. Don't be afraid of doing this it's very strong and soon springs back in to shape. I did it on my own holding it up with one hand and putting the new fir tree's in with the other to hold it in place it would be easier with two people but it's not too difficult on your own. The advantage of using an original LR part like this is that all the pre-drilled holes in the new LR headlining lined up exactly with the holes in the roof so it was easy to know exactly when it was in the right place and the fir tree's just pushed in without having to fiddle about trying to locate the hole the other side of the headlining too much Thumbs Up Top Tip: Don't fit all the fir tree's above the front seats there are two holes that need to be left free for fir tree's that fit through the rear section and front section when they overlap later.

With the front section in place I couldn't help fitting the new SVX black sun visors that I purchased with the headlining! I wasn't sure I'd made the right choice to start with but these are really nice quality and look great a really good choice if I may say so myself Whistle Laughing !!

In the backdoor with the rear section of roof and again much bending and flexing to be had here just to get it through and in to the rear of the vehicle. Once it's in I found it quite easy to fit. The trick here is to make sure you get it above the extended sections that hold the rear 'telephone' panel on above the rear door first then offer one side up and flex the other side up and again much flexing etc to be done to get it in to place but don't worry its very strong. There are only two fir tree's to be pushed in on the rear section they are located where it overlaps with the front section. There are pre-drilled holes but not in the fabric so you have to feel along the edge for the holes I just used a knife to put a little hole through the fabric so I could push the fir tree through once I found the holes. They line up with the holes of the front panel and the pre-drilled holes in the metal roof exactly.

I run out of time I still have the interior lights to fit and a few other bits to tidy up but I have to say it looks amazing it not only gives a real quality feel to the inside but IMHO it also makes it feel sporty and a much nicer place to be Thumbs Up

Looking very nice Laurence, doing this on mine was one of the most satisfying improvements, the alcantara feels and looks so good.

Re the seats, I'd go for the Land Rover premium one piece back style, and a high top padded cubby box. You often see on eBay people selling them as a package straight out of the newest ones, and the black and pimento red combo looks nice. 2016 D4 HSE

Adam,

They are quite something mate Shocked !!

Not sure if I'd be brave enough to put them in tho...??? Prefer to go with the omelandrover seats as they are original LandRover items. Very tempted with ome seats pictured above in red and black.... But also like the black with white stitching sports seats...... No I'm going for the red & black... although black with white stitching... Confused Confused Laughing

Think I'm going to have to give it some more thought.....!!!

Come on chaps help me out here... Has anybody got pitures of the red/black sports seats in their Defender??? 2010 Defender 90 HT

Laurence, looking good, mine arrives Wednesday from OEM so I will post my pics up once it's all done. Found OEM great yo deal with Thumbs Up so that's for the recommendation.

Spoke to Phil and they do an original premium seat retrim kit. I did my at the weekend (5hrs 2 seats) using a exmoor product. OME do a genuine LR premium seat retrim kit for about £30 more but they have done half the work for you compared to the exmoor one. Worth speaking to Phil on. Could help you do it. Reckon I could do 2 exmoor kits in half the time now I know how to do it. Mr. Green
