Well tbh you're never gonna get away from bi-metal corrosion.
no mater whether you get a Hannibal or a Patriot rack (both made from ali) you'll always find some steel fixings. Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |

See if you can get a bare ali one and get it powder coated yourself some of the coatings you see are so thin they wont stand any knocks or scrapes

I would imagine if you assembled it and coated the stainless Allen fasterners with copper slip combined with regular cleaning it will be fine maybe even a quick rub over with some wax polish now and again.
That's what I did with the chequer plate on the 110 dcpu when it came the plate had been fitted by the first owner but after last winter the salt had started the reaction causin unsightly streaks down the sills ![]() This time after the salt there is some marks but it easily washes off with soap and warm water. ![]() 16 Focus RS Nitrous Blue. 11 FFRR TDV8 Vouge SE Black Black. 08 DEFENDER SVX SOFT TOP (SUPERB) 08 DEFENDER 110 DCPU Stornoway grey (Overland Exploration Unit) 05 Fiesta ST 150 Van 04 Jaguar XKR 4.2 Supercharged V8 02 DEFENDER 90 TD5 (next years soft top project) 95 DEFENDER 110 CSW 300 TDi Phoenix black 95 DEFENDER 90 HT Monti Carlo blue COUNTY 300 TDi 67 109" SERIES 2a TUNED 200 TDI 64 DAVID BROWN 990 rat look 55 86" SERIES 1 |

Had a Hannibal rack on a Defender from Rogers of Bedford many years ago the Landrover was a 2000 110csw TD5 and about 12 months old the rack was new because at the time they were agents. The rack was natural bare aluminium but the roof clamps were stainless. After about 18 months the rack looked a bit tatty after the weather and slt got to it.The swapped to a new 2004 defender and swapped the rack to it but had it blasted and powder coated by a company called Redditch Shotblasting and powder coating then had a Puma in 2007 which have still got and the rack is fitted to this.I use the Landrover as a working vehicle it carries ladders, steps, trunking ets and occasionally a couple of 6m lighting coloums.I also on occasions use it as a mobile platform for working off.The rack is still in perfect condition as there is no steel to rust.Recently i was talking to Nene Overland at a show and saw that there newer rascks had a rubber strip in the roof rail between the rack and rail. They very generously sent me the rubber free of charge in the post.I have also put some thin rubber sheet between the clamps and the roof just to protect the paint.Probably the best purchase ever made on a Defender.Patriots werent around at the time so i dont know about them. Its now 9 years old and if i sold it tomorrow would probably get a good price for it.Any doubts speak to Nene Qverland they are very good.

not sure you would want to use copper slip, adding another metal to the mix might not be wise...

Thanks for your replies. There is something they use for yachts as quite a bit of aluminium is used on them. I have to find out what it is anyway as I need to replace steel screws in my aluminium mast. I will post the name of it when I have found out

Which number of racks and where are you seeing them,
Where are you hanging out that all the defenders have racks. Why are the aluminium racks you've "seen" painted. Do you have a roof rack. Are you related to discotres. Have you nothing better to do than talk ![]() 110 HCPU Tipper |
