cutting out and water guage jumping into the red
Yesterday morning my td5 90 was hard to start and occasionally whilst turning over the guage would jump to the red.
Today it started fine but has been cutting out on the way to work. When it does die the yellow engine warning light comes on and the water guage does off into the red. twice it lasted about a second and came back to life. The third time it died for about 20 seconds and the guage stayed right off the top. when it dropped down the landy started 1st time.
I'm guessing an earth fault and I've had some advice to the same. Anyone else ever had this? 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

Think I already replied to your Facebook thread. Run a new earth, check ECU plugs and relays for corrosions and ensure they're making good contact

yes you have mate. I was talking this through with a colleague at lunch and he told me to post the same question on a forum over Facebook as he said forums tend to be more knowledgeable.

I'm with you though, but just incase it's a common fault and as I'm going to be doing it on the high street at 7pmm I front of all the pubs and drinkers I want it sorted as quick as I can! 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

I find Facebook good for a quick response...

...forum best for a more thoughtful, sometimes more accurate response Smile

This happened on my old TD5, one of the yellow relay under the drivers seat had poor contacts. A clean with contact cleaner and a squeeze of the slot terminals and all was good again.

looks like your bang on the money Steve. I relocated my fuse box and ecu from under the drivers seat, everytime I knocked or moved the main relay the fault occurred.

cleaned the contacts and squeezed them and all is good again 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

you get the smug satisfaction of knowing you were right, and the double factor of knowing that I then didn't quote you as being the 1st correct one! 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

Glad you got it sorted... Fingers crossed it wasn't one of those annoying intermittent issues
