I would love to get back into shooting. I started off in the mid 1970's on .22, then 303 and 762. Mrs H does not like guns, or for that fact motorbikes either so they are unfortunatly both off the radar....... Cheers Don.

Couple of weekends ago my father let my 8 year old son have his first shot of a .22. To date he has only had the air rifle.

He used the same Winchester 1906 pump action that my father and then I both learnt on. It's a great gun to start out. It has a date stamp of 30 May 1911 and it still works perfectly.

Needless to say my son was very excited and can't wait to get back to see his grandparents!

It's been a while since I shot properly, but I had a chance at a charity gig with my brother in law who is still attached to the Army. First off was some 'plinking' - then it got serious with 10 rounds at 20m 'competitive for a prize'.

This was the result:

50 guests, many who were ex Forces & 6 Army staff including two range instructors took part. I was Shocked because I got first place Twisted Evil

And a while ago I got hold of a few of these:

STEYR SSG08

Sadly not mine, but I did get to have a go for an afternoon

Love my shooting, even have a full length secure shooting drawer in the defender. I shoot at the Surrey Gun club when down here or Park Farm up north Thumbs Up

Absolutely love it, although only hit about 60-70% of clays these days Embarassed

Would love to get out and shoot Phesant though when in season

Up to recently I have shot a lot of skeet at Tadley sporting gun club, but sadly it's closing in a couple of weeks for good after 43 years, "noise" is the issue apparently Neutral
Also shoot skeet at Bisley,
The sporting ( not my favourite discipline ) at Bisley is great, but a tad expensive,
Popham Nr the airfield A303 is another sporting venue if ya like narrow windows of clays amongst trees,
Wallers ash is a well thought about sporting layout but gets proper busy,

Owls lodge is lovely, offers many disciplines and tuition,

Wood farm in Mere is a goodun and friendly , skeet and sporting, after that I head towards Brookbank and mendip grounds,

I shoot if it's dry, wifey shoots if it's dry and warm Laughing

Great to find this topic. I've been shooting for over 15yrs now, mainly clay. I shoot at Coniston Shooting Ground on the A65 North Yorks. Superb ground, very professional, amazing range of traps and disciplines on offer. It's run by the hugely hospitable Peter Manley. Recommend it to anyone who already shoots for the range of challenging traps and likewise those wanting to get into shooting for their training traps. And it gets better, on the estate is the Coniston 4x4 course if you want to sharpen up your off-road skills. Look forward to seeing more posts on Shooting gear for Defenders.
