Ah, conflict of interest Rolling Eyes

I wasn't allowed to date a girl because she worked for a supplier, yet the Home Secretary responsible for policing is married to a major G4S shareholder. And the current minister for education, responsible for proposing that schools be turned in to private academies' does in fact own an academy. Not only that, but it's been investigated for breaching the UK rules regarding the number of governors (each academy must have a number of parents on the board) because the board in his case consisted of 3 people. Him, his wife and his mate.

I despair of the standard of our politicians. Self serving, corrupt and untrustworthy. Evil or Very Mad New project and it's green: www.projectoverland.info

Funny how the story about the Panama Papers didn't make the front page of some UK tabloids!! Seems walnuts are more newsworthy than the lid being lifted on what seems to be some of the most prolific tax evasion, avoidance & money laundering schemes for the Daily Express Shocked

I don't think any of us would be exempt from the rule of absolute power corrupts absolutely - I have thought for a while that none of the parties are fit to govern. I couldn't cope with an extreme left or extreme right but in the same breath I also can't cope with the so called level playing field of the middle still being a merry go round of smear and sensationalist stories distracting the public from holding everyone accountable. So the budget issue has gone away has it?

The U.K. Needs to do two things with regards to tax:

1) change the over complex rules - introduce a zero tax rate for earnings up to £25k and a 30% rate for all earnings above this. Make it a fair country not an unfair tax system. In places like Singapore, and evidence suggests the same would happen here, the lower tax rates actually cause money to flow directly back to the high street where the money needs to be for demand to encourage home grown production and also the high street to expand.

2) An amnesty on all monies abroad to be brought back to the Uk or lost forever. There is only one way to look at this, the monies are either brought to the uk where we can manage the tax etc, or we keep going on this merry go round and spend millions chasing individuals hiding money. It all should be in the uk and then it's easier to catch those who hide it, based on the rule that more resources are catching fewer criminals. If someone tries to bring money in at a later date, it should be investigated.

I'm sure all of you are going to cut me down for suggesting such ideas Whistle

Cheers
Michael

I have long maintained that the mere fact that someone wants to become a politician should disqualify that person from doing so. All the current lot, whatever their political or other persuasion, seem to me to be second raters with no morality nor shame. I wouldn't give any of them the time of day. It actually makes me angry just to think about how they conduct themselves!

However, on the subject of tax avoidance (note, not evasion), I am in two minds. It is morally wrong, but, given the standard of the people spending my tax money, is it really wrong to take lawful steps to give them as little of my hard-earned as possible? I don't think so.

We are encouraged to shop around to save on groceries etc, to switch suppliers to save on services etc, so why not take entirely lawful steps to save on tax?

That being said, politicians should practice what they preach, lead by example and be beyond reproach. The current lot are all shabby second-raters, though, but I think I already said that.

I long for the sday when ballot papers have a "none of the above" box. If "none of the above" gets the majority vote, we have no government until such time as some party makes itself electable.

Can I propose the 30% tax comes in at £56,606 - not for any personal reasons obviously?
Will advise what I would like it to be after the P60 turns up this year

Peter Bottomley MP for Worthing is married to the ex health minister Virginia Bottomley, she was a NED at Bupa, the private health company

Jeremy Hunt the current health minister is a direct cousin of Virginia

What's most odd is that Cameron's dad was one of the leading practioners of offshoring for many years, made no secret of it, probably used some of the proceeds to put his son through Eton, but it is only now that some of the press want to make an issue of it!

I have to say I would be more inclined to respect uk tax law if it were less of a gordian knot. And if it were administered by a more transparent, less authoritarian agency. Don't worry I do pay what I owe but no more.

As for politicians and more widely those with a lust for power and authority I agree they are the last people who should have any. Power corrupts. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.
