clutch pedal still squeaky after 3 in 1
Hello


I had a squeaky clutch pedal months ago, did a search and found the 3 in 1 oil dripped on the clutch from under the cover (6 bolts) normally did the job for a while.


Just squirted some more on it yet its still squeaks... annoyingly.


Any think else I can do? Squirted some on the spring above pedal also. Still squeaks

my 200tdi did the same even after i oiled it. but even more oil fixed it... Rolling with laughter

i had to oil it a few times on all the moving parts and it did go, dount hold back with the oil. Thumbs Up

^ it was dripping in.... not a huge amount.

Do you get someone to press the clutch inside? while squirting it as I was doing it on my own. Squirt then press clutch,

Hopefully it will sort itself after a drive tomorrow. otherwise I will do it again...

It's not always the pivot so try this:

Open the drivers door and from outside the vehicle take a look at the clutch pedal - see the spring [overcentre type on later vehicles] some way up the pedal shaft? Apply a drop of lubricant / service spray where the spring acts on the pedal.

Keep an eye and make sure that by dropping mineral oil onto the pivot you keep it away from the master cylinder itself - especially the rubber bits. Steve.

Does having the bleed nipple though just bypass undoing the 6 screws and squirting oil in?

Should mine have that 'blank'

^^I've fitted a grease nipple there on some previous vehicles but while a worthwhile, cheap and simple mod the problem often lays with the spring Wink Steve.

I cure my squeak by lubricating just the spring didnt need to even open the bonnet DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Ok so oily rag under pedal and squirted 3 in 1 all round where I normally do ( undo the 6 screws under engine..... Squirt) and I squirted a lot.


Every time previously this has worked but NO


So head under steering wheel as I push the clutch in with hand and squirt the spring also (and anything else I can see that could be causing a squeal attached to pedal)


STILL squeaking....... Aaarrggghhh any other options?

I sprayed mine with lithium grease from the inside and this worked a treat.

Both ends of the spring? Next would be check the security of the pedal box fastenings but I'd still put money on the spring.

BTW as I said before you don't want to get mineral oil [like 3 in 1 ] near the master cylinder pushrod at the rubber boot end or the boot itself. Steve.

not much I can do about that now I guess?


I think its the spring also but at a loss how to solve it now Sad and its annoying...

That plastic insert in the pedal circled in yellow is a favourite spot as the insert can wear or breakdown. The spring coils themselves can also creak and groan too. There is a knack to removing the spring for a check over, it's more fiddly than difficult.

WD40 is more of a water repellent than a lubricant, if what you are using hasn't worked then try something else like a spray white grease but only use it sparingly inside the pedal box itself and keep the stuff away from the master cylinder!

If I were you I'd give the pushrod and rubber dust boot a thorough wipe over, the danger with using lubricant in that area is that some might get drawn into the cylinder bore which won't do the piston seals any favours. Steve.
