Replacing front and rear plastic LR badge
I'm looking to replace both badges with the larger aluminium variety:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281938618402?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT

On the front, what do the the rivets go through/hold on to?

On the rear, is it OK to drill rivet holes in the approximate area of the current badge (no wires etc to be aware of?).

I would prefer rivets instead of glue - is there any other recommended way to attach these?

I really like those badges.

There are a few forum members who've done what you intend to so you'll get an accurate response I'm sure.

I can't see how you could easily fit one to the front - and I mean a simple swap. Anything can be done but it may need a plinth making.

The rear should be straight forward once you've safely removed the factory oval badge (plenty of threads on here).
There are wires behind the panel but you can remove the rear speaker to have a look see. If you take care with the drill it shouldn't be a problem. My advice would be to carefully prime and paint the newly made holes.

If you are using aluminium rivets then you should be ok, but take care if you're using stainless steel etc. A spot of Duralac or Tef Gel is good generally if fixing dissimilar metals (again plenty of threads on here).

Best of luck!

I've replaced both front grille and rear badges with aluminium old style badges. Very easy and straight forward. If you are concerned about wires at the rear the easiest way is to remove the rear speaker (held in with four screws). I used stainless steel pop rivets for the rear badge. For attachment to the front grille I used stainless machine screws and self locking stainless nuts with two black, powder coated pieces of flat bar behind the plastic grille.

Gavin at Artmin Designs will make up some lovely smaller custom metal badges. For the front grille, I epoxied mine to a modified standard plinth....

Two excellent (and different) suggestions - thank you!

CY88 - how much did you pay for the Artmin version? It looks a better quality product than OEM - sharper lettering and better paint

Gavin at Artmin is an excellent chap and will make up badges to your own specification. I purchased my front and rears from him - excellent finish, well priced and have recommended him a number of times and everyone has been super impressed with the quality. Defender 90XS SW

Cheaper for my two than the single badge in your ebay link, I seem to recall. And excellent quality.

As stated, drop Gavin an email and he will quote for you to your specific requirement. Very helpful chap.

Same badge on rear:

Well it certainly sounds like Gavin from Artmin is the man!

A Google of Artmin produces a blog site, without a phone number - please could someone let me have Gavin's contact details.

Thanks

its very easy to cannibalise a standard front badge to fit an old style one.

Will pop a couple of rivets in just to fill the holes and finish it off. Sits very flush to the grille which I'm happy about

Now that DOES look good Thumbs Up

The colour theme of my truck is very much black/silver and I do believe you've tempted me to look at changing the badges now! Thumbs Up

If you don't mind me asking, what type is your steering guard? Is it aluminium or steel?

Screbble, steering guard is from Flatdog. It is 8mm aluminium with mild steel brackets, zinc plated and powder coated. Only disadvantage is that you cannot fit jate rings. To overcome this I have fitted Nakatanenga recovery eyes to front bumper (from Brendan at 4x4 Overlander). Thoroughly recommend it and excellent value for money. Defender 90XS SW
