Don't have the aluminium panels blasted, it will stretch and warp them.
As already said, paint stripper would be the best option. |

Thanks for the heads up. The guy I spoke to seemed to know his stuff giving me the impression he'd 'media cleaned' several Land Rovers in the past. He even explained how to take it apart. Maybe you're both right though. As I'm replacing all of the doors and the bonnet anyway, I could just invest in an orbital sander and some elbow grease to save myself a few bob. Out of interest, what's the most effective paint stripper?

Soda blasting - not as aggressive as grit see Frosts website or Google Millar Soda Blasting. Cheers

Thanks for the advice. Putting my environmentally responsible hat on, soda blasting sounds like a good option. I don't have a yard or workshop to work in so the problem I have with a chemical removal process is that I'll be swilling rubber eating paint stripper straight down the drain! I'll keep you all posted.

Talk to Michael Miller http://www.millarsodablasting.com/ - I bought my blaster off him. I got the dual version grit and soda - so far so good blasted ali and also a timber dresser - no steel as yet - you have to play around with pressure but once you get it correct works really well. He also does contract work his place hd a Jensen, Porsch and Beetle body shell in it. For all concerned I have no connection with him - just a really helpful guy Cheers

Thanks Simon. Now weighing up cost of buying/hiring equipment to do a DIY job versus sending it away to be done.

Having done this recently on a car with 3 to 4 layers of brush applied paint, the soda blasting that the paint shop first attempted was not as efficient as the stripping solution that they resorted to. Depends on the type of paint that you're trying to remove though.
