Always been a bit unsure about this snooker player, however, after his behaviour today at the welsh open I have made my mind up, he’s a
 , he is a good snooker player though. Still how many of us would turn down the chance of twelve grand, not me for sure.
Today Ronnie O'Sullivan turned down the chance of a maximum 147 break at the Welsh Open because the £12,000 prize money was "too cheap". O'Sullivan asked an official what the prize was for a 147 and highest break. He was also asking the commentary box for information and looked visibly disappointed when told he could win up to £12,000, £10.000 for the 147 and £2.000 for the highest break. O'Sullivan, a five-time world champion, had potted 14 reds and 13 blacks, but went for an easier pink as he made a 146. He told BBC Sport afterwards "I knew it was £10,000. I agree and disagree,
Seems at face value he maybe part of a door furniture, However in any "job" if you provide a service for less and less money the prices usually stay down, So by refusing the 10k hopefully keeps the price up, But yea, could have used more tact for sure And yes I would have taken the money  |

Or he is aware that others may be able to get a 147 so decided to let them have it instead as he doesnt need it?
Won £10 on the lottery last year - bought £10 worth of sandwishes and botttle of water and gave it to the first homelss guy I met - not saying I only keep big winnings, but still, didn't need the small one, and someone else could better benefit. That make me a aswell? TY&GN

Lets just broaden the subject a little.
Average salary in the UK is about £25,000. So for potting a few balls in say 10-15 minutes he could win/earn what the average UK person earns in 6 months?? That is too cheap?? I wonder what the snooker fans who had paid good money to watch the match, many of who would have been on an average salary thought about that comment? Dare I say it shows the disdain that some of the grossly overpaid sports people show to the paying public who actually pay their wages. No wonder the Liverpool fans walked out as a protest on the ticket prices. Brendan |

I think it used to be circa £50k but its gone down as I assume too many people were winning it.
Bit of an own goal really for professional snooker players generally. I'm sure £12k to an up & coming snooker play will be much more appreciated. He's a bit of an arrogant but very popular 2020 P300 HSE |

It is a rolling pot of money so by not taking it the value goes up next time and so on . What he has done is raise the value of the pot, I am sure he knows that and so do the commentators but the reporting is deliberating making the story about wealth and value. A little bit off really but that is the press we all love.

Prize money for the Welsh Open, it is Wales remember.
Winner: £60,000 Runner-up: £30,000 Semi-finals: £20,000 Quarter-finals: £10,000 Last 16: £5,000 Last 32: £3,000 Last 64: £2,000 Maximum break: £10,000 Highest break: £2,000 Have to say with his attitude I am surprised O'Sullivan bothered to get out of bed with the top prize being only sixty grand.
The maximum break stays at ten thousand but that sum is shared if more than one player achieves a maximum break and does not increase the value of the pot as mentioned by a poster. So in football, if someone gets paid 100k a week ( or more ) is it ok for them to get a bonus to score a goal ?
Or charge £60 plus for people who earn a average wage to shell out and go watch um ? |

The value goes up in the next ranking tournament if it isn't won in this one. Granted if someone wins it this time it is £10000 or a share of

Ronnie O'Sullivan doesn't play football. But in response to your point, I don't personally think that scoring a goal in football is something you can compare to making a 147 clearance. 2006 TD5110 station wagon

Is that a bit like saying standing around in a field for a few days taking peoples money for products is an easy way to make a living? I'm sure in his case, as in yours, there's lots that goes on to get to that point. He shares many thoughts others would probably be more guarded and not make - so I appreciate his honestly if not always the sentiment. It was not that long ago he admitted to coming back to the sport because he had school fees to pay. |
