There are two unpainted metal strips that run across the bulkhead above both footwells. Standard issue. If the seal between screen and bulkhead is faulty, the resulting water that runs down back of the bulkhead, behind the dash appears at the bottom as a rusty yellow soup. Shocked

Your (6 year) corrosion garantee runs out in 2018...

Dealer - lift roof, remove dash, screen frame out...the full monty. 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

The corrosion garantee is valid for 6 years, I believe. Maybe because it is a leak, it doesnīt qualify initially...but once the rusty soup has gathered, you should have something to go on. Good luck. 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

You are right. "Corrosion caused by another defect" is not covered. Damn! Have a look behind the dash, by taking out the footwell speaker. You will need to find someone who knows their way around the gasket between windscreen frame and bulkhead. 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

If the screen frame to bulkhead seal is suspect the easiest thing to do is run a bead of sealant along the join and around the corner by the door seals. make sure you do this with everything nice and dry, removing the wiper arms makes it easier to get a neater finish.

Also worthwhile checking that the drain points are clear of muck and debris. Steve.

We just noticed the same issue on our 2015 110 :S

Is it worth taking to the dealers, or would extra sealing on the bulkhead suffice? 28/02 - Loss of a good friend...

My 90 had the exact leak running through the join in the dash at knee height. The metal strip which you can see at the end of the join is the rusting metal as it's completely untreated. After having the windscreen resealed and the bulkhead resealed, the leak was identified as being through the rubber grommet that would be the windscreen wiper hole on a left hand drive vehicle. Amazing how much water it was letting in and now completely dry.
