I agree with nickhodgson 100%. The Puma wants to drive itself in certain situations . I disconnected the idle jack and much prefer its behaviour in low range.....but still prefer the Tdi in the bush. On road different story.

One thing that I don't think has been mentioned about Idle Jack is how it knows to use it.
There isn't a switch telling the ECU that you're in 1st or reverse, it guesses based on wheel speed and whether you're in low range. As a result it sometimes accidentally engages Idle Jack if you're in low and not in 1st. |

That has been discussed in other similar threads in the past - I know, because I have questioned this very question (if that makes sense).
You are right, Idle Jack will quite often activate in ANY low range gear . As you say, all the ECU knows is that low range is selected, the engine speed, and the aggregate wheel speed (which equates to road speed assuming no loss of traction). You may not like the feature (or indeed you may), but you can't deny it's clever! |
