England 2002 Defender 110 Td5 CSW Zambezi Silver
Having had another quick look in the dark this morning before work - can the wheel boxes and cables be changed without removing the whole of the dash? 2002 110 CSW TD5, Zambezi Silver

I don't think so.

I followed this guide:
https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/wip...wal.99743/

Every screw seemed to be a different size, so keep track of what comes off where.

Typical! Ordering parts so just need to find the time now!

Thanks for the link - I found that one late last night - think it's a 300Tdi but still useful. 2002 110 CSW TD5, Zambezi Silver

Yes - and there are some differences - infact I gave up trying to get the drivers side one out!

However (someone or some googling will need to confirm) - I think the difference lies between '02, and '03, the wheel box shaft is slightly longer (mine is an '03) so you may be lucky... check before ordering bits.

You need to take the dash out to remove the wheel boxes, the spindles are too long to do anything else

If you have to go to this length, replace with new, only use genuine LR parts, and grease well

You don't need to take the dash out.

Did mine just by taking the top pad off, takes some double jointed spannering but can be done.

Replaced both wheel boxes and the drive cable

Tiger - thanks for that. I'm going to give it a go. Should hopefully be able to pick up 2 x wheel boxes and the rack locally tomorrow. How long did it take you? Bar the double jointed spattering any other top tip for your method? How did you get the old rack out and then feed the new rack in to place and connect into the motor? 2002 110 CSW TD5, Zambezi Silver

Th drivers side is the Pig Banging Head Censored Banging Head Censored
You'll have to take the instrument cluster out to remove the demister as the wheel box is behind it. You dont need to remove the bottom dash, but thats the correct way of doing it. The wheel box on the later type, won't go back far enough, but will with a bit of persuasion from some stilsons Whistle
Alternatively yes as a quick fix rotating the wheel boxes works, just mark them first before you pull the drive cable, so as you can rotate 180 degrees efficiently, and check they are correct when reassembled. Your washers sounded like mine, caused by the gears jamming adding strain to the motor.

Jim, how do you pull the drive cable out with the motor in situ?

Did the rotate work or did you need a new motor in there? 2002 110 CSW TD5, Zambezi Silver

Yep the rotate worked a treat for me👍 You have to remove the wipermotor, but leave attached to drive cable and just pull slowly out. You will have to split the wiper boxes as Tigers picture ( 2 8mm nuts) so as the solid guides come out, and remember to take your wipers off ! 4 hours ish ?? 👍

Jim, thanks for that - impressed you got the wiper motor out without removing the dash! Square peg round hole springs to mind! I split the paassenger sides straght away when I was investigating - just need to get at the drivers side now.

Thanks. 2002 110 CSW TD5, Zambezi Silver
