If you're getting "wabble" on start up I would check your glow plugs - especially with the colder weather coming in.

Without glow heat on a pot it'll initially run poorly on that pot (miss-fire if you like) hence the "wabble". This in turn mean un-burnt fuel giving the white smoke.

Certainly worth a diagnostic check Thumbs Up

Thanks very much for that and I generally agree - I'll probably change them to be sure but wouldn't unburnt fuel be black smoke?

in terms of the wobble I think you're right you would be this but unfortunately I don't think this is the cause but I will look further into it.

Thumbs Up

You should be able to check them with a diagnostic check rather than a physical swap. An indy with the right kit should be able to check for you - around here it'll be less than £35 so I wonder bother getting the spanners out for that.

The plus to this route is if it's a wiring issue you'll be able to check but if you simply swap and there is a wiring fault you won't see a difference and presume there was nothing wrong with the old ones.

Oh, black smoke for poorly burnt fuel whereas white smoke for raw diesel dumped down the exhaust (or summet like that).

Good luck & I hope 2016 is the end to all your problems Thumbs Up

Another thought would be disconnect all of them. I'm lead to believe my another forum member they start fine without the glow plugs?

If you're gonna blank your EGR exchange the software on your ECU, too.

Clean all injectors, try better software.

Cheap software does not take into account the gas coming from the EGR in order to oxidate once more. Like 2CO + O2 -> 2CO2. The relationship is not correct any more i.e. too much diesel and everything filthy inside the engine.

thanks very much. I don't think it's the software as it seems to have come on all of a sudden (and yes I do appreciate the temp have dropped).

I use quite a bit of Redex and as such would like to think the injectors are clean but I guess they could be faulty (or one could be)?

Thumbs Up

Since I removed the cat and mid box the exhaust really stinks, can't describe it really but notice smelly exhaust hanging around when I run it for a while before I drive on cold mornings. Don't quite understand it.

since a couple of weeks I also did decat and change midpipe, and really I also have a stinky exhaust now - I also have the EGR blanked and pull the plug out (not yet remapped for this part)
the exhaust smells terrible - when I put it in our home garage I need to keep windows open for at least 15 minutes...
I didn't try it without the blanking plate and EGR plugged in... maybe it is better

Decat and EGR blanking (via software) since two years, small amount of white smoke on start, but nothing special. I can let the engine run for a while in thd garage, no need to vent afterwards. Actually i find it smells fine Rolling Eyes
I also use redex from time to time. If i put too much it smokes more (white). Defender 110 SW MY2011 2.4tdci decat, no EGR

I have all the usual mods, similar too most ! Diesels do sink up a bit on cold morning with no breeze. Normal really, but I soon get going driving too get the job done not sparing the horses. This makes the rings bite and clean the bores, they are better for doing so hard work. They love it ! Thumbs Up
