As you can see there is a lot of rust covered with some filler in the past, underside I have found excessive corrosion to the rear axle where the tie rods mount and also on the chassis suspension....... This means I can't treat her to as many galv products as I can find Thumbs Up Then there is the spiders web of wiring that has been added over the years (pics to follow)

I bought this with the intention of a full chassis up rebuild to get this wagon exactly how I want a Land Rover to be, so over the next............lets be honest it will be done when it's done!

As soon as funds are in my bank RC will recive an order and the build can start Thumbs Up

I am also after a few bits and will ask on here as and when I think of them also in the wanted section.

If anyone has some terminally ill td5 axle diffs I am interested. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Gah dammit I'm so doing this in the new year, as soon as I find a 110 v8 at a 'reasonable' price. They seem to be spiraling upwards at the moment.

So yesterday I finaly got a chance to do a little more on the 90.
Started with putting it on axle stands to assess the hubs etc and raise it up higher for crawling underneath.
Four years of being static has taken its toll on the brakes

Then I decided to look at the masses of additional wiring that has been added over the years.

Found this switch behind the dash/rats nest

Then I was amazed it was still here finding connections like this

So the strip of the entire inside of the bulkhead happened revealing a lot more rust

Finaly after more cable-ties than the British army use in a decade and a lot of yanking

I can defiantly say my cutters earnt their keep yesterday.

More pics to follow as I got too excited and didn't take too many. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

On another thread and not wanting to high jack it, Grenadier suggested the name Geoff for the V8 now the meaning of this name is peace and let's be honest peace and V8 don't really go together. I have been thinking of names for a while now and think I have found it:

Hephaestus : the God of fire and metal work, the only ugly god among perfectly beautiful immortals. (Yes to us defenders are beautiful, but to many they are boxy and ugly)

Now as my other toys are all female and this is a massively different what does everyone think? 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Bit of a mouthful. Given the strong V8 and the 90's military provenance, what about Margaret (Maggie) wife of Henry VI?

'emerged as the de facto leader of the Lancastrians during the Wars of the Roses. She introduced conscription, amassed armies, tortured and burnt to death Yorkist knights and won several battles before ultimately being defeated by the Yorkists.'

Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

So got a little more done on Maggie today.

Spot the difference.:

The heater matrix seal holding what's left of the bulkhead, guess this shows how rotten it really is in places, although looking around some areas are still solid.

Now I know this is going to be a long term project so have planed for this, and to anyone who is going to attempt something similar:

Some nice storage draws to keep all fixtures/fittings/nut/bolts/screws and all that other c Censored p that appears as you strip it down. Keep All of it even if you plan to buy new at least having the old one 6 months later to take to your local fixtures place to ensure you buy the correct thread/size.

Now back to my spot the difference................... Here's a clue

Yep the engine is out and it's ready for a good clean, strip and rebuild. More pics of the engine tomorrow. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html
