Same reason LR stopping the defender. Neither come close to being saleable in Europe past 2016. Cheers, David

In The Telegraph of Saturday 12dec15 there is an article that says that LR are going to build the new Defender in Slovakia in a new £1bn factory.

I've been told by a very reliable source that it'll be built on a discovery chassis

At the Bonham's auction chatted to a few JLR folk including their outside PR firm. They are all VERY confident we are going to like the new one. I know you might expect them to say that, but even the lower ranking folk and external partners are saying it, so I think we might be pleasantly surprised. 2015 110 XS CSW Montalcino Red with Black Pack

I know what you mean about reading his quotes, this was my 'favourite' from him; After speaking with Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s design director, McGovern said traditionalists won’t be happy with the new design, but “they’ll have to live with it.” |

I think traditionalist is a polite way of saying "people who have never bought a new Land Rover product in their life and probably never will".

Okay, that's another way to interpret his words.
To my ears it seemed more like, 'If you've enjoyed and respected the gradual evolution of the iconic and eminently capable Defender, then this new one aint gonna be for you; and I couldn't care less because I think you should all be buying trendy and easier to build evoque type vehicles any way.' Although I guess only he can know what he actually meant. |

I have no doubt it will be very tough and very capable. I don't think they will get that wrong. It will also be more reliable and much better built. It can't be ergonomically worse and I feel what ever it looks like on the outside won't please everyone..what car does and it has to be more streamlined so the box is out. My worry is what the price will be starting at. I think the basic version should be £20k as a no frills spec. It should still include a cd and air on like every other car. Hopefully with a hose out interior. I hope the high spec ones don't cost more than £35k. With the rising costs of their other cars they are really narrowing their customer base in my view. I still think the disco should be available in a more entry spec at under £30k. But hey...they are a business after all. Sib

I'm sure that LR have already stated that it will be positioned between the Discovery and Range Rover, therefore likely to cost much more than current Defenders.

Really ?
Surely it should be at the bottom of the pecking order now that Freelander has gone...? Sib Bath UK 1952 80 inch 1973 88 inch 2018 Morgan plus 4 narrow body |

LEZ, that can't be right surely?!? Defender has always been below the Discovery and I can't why that would change? Surely the RRS is between the Discovery and RR? I would expect it to be priced similar to the Discovery Sport, but hopeless less.
I'm really looking forward to seeing it! |

The new Defenders will represent Land Rover’s mid-range offerings as the models will be positioned above the Discovery models, but below the luxurious Range Rovers. Although it will keep the rugged design, Land Rover wants to boost the model’s commercial success by not making it as hardcore as the outgoing model. |
