Hi Pete,
The safari cage and internal roll over bar were all factory specification, as part of the 50th/NAS spec. As part of the spec they all came with no bulkhead. I believe the full roll cage is available from SafetyDevices.com (link to page below), who have been mentioned on the Defender50th.co.uk forum. A few places can provide information on aftermarket parts, like Rimmers and Devon 4x4. http://www.safetydevices.com/expedition/pr...esent/276/ I'm not aware of the kits that might be available, but it is certainly a great update if you have plans to do it. ex-MY1998 Defender 50th GB343 5.0L JE Supersports MY2000 TVR Griffith 500 MY2003 TVR Cerbera SP6 |

TD5 Instrument Light Panel / Clock Surround
I had a quick search in the forum, but could not find anything specifically relating to updating the clock surround for the newer TD5 LED style panel (I'm sure I found it before, but no luck this time...I'm not looking to change the dash to an '02, just the clocks/warning-panel). I understand it is possible, but wondered if the 50th loom is classed as "ROW" in which case it should plug and play with the TD5 instrument panel? (I'm sure I read that somewhere....) Anyway, thought I would see if anyone has done it, and maybe how easy it might be to do. Some of the symbols have faded on my panel, and thinking of refreshing with the newer panel style. Thanks for any pointers! (Not much progress updating anything else at the moment, another new daily soaked up the cash!) ex-MY1998 Defender 50th GB343 5.0L JE Supersports MY2000 TVR Griffith 500 MY2003 TVR Cerbera SP6 |

A lovely find Aaron.
Funny how times change so quick - JE adding in their own 5.0 as per your spec... (5) JE 5.0L SUPERSPORTS 'Complete Engine': delivering 275bhp and 440Nm torque. -5.0L short engine (as per (4) above) -Sport cylinder heads and intake system -a fully re-programmed engine ECU The JLR do their own 5.0 that has 510BHP! Yes RRUK, it's amazing how quickly things have moved on. I would be half tempted to stuff the Jaguar 5.0L Supercharged unit in! I agree that would be insane. I loved my RR 4.2 Supercharged, always great fun and the noise from the Supercharger always brought a smile as it lurched forward ex-MY1998 Defender 50th GB343 5.0L JE Supersports

The 4.2 makes a lovely whine, the 5.0 is another level though! 2016 D4 HSE

You can update the warning lamps, but will need a Td5 surround and warning panel. Then a couple of plugs (off ebay) to connect to the panel. You can get these as new or chop from a Td5 loom. then its a case of connecting like for like after chopping the old plugs off. I've done it on mine. Here is a link to a 200/300tdi to Td5 conversion. Just disregard the temp mod and fiiting of speedo. http://www.retroanaconda.com/landrover/200...tdi300tdi/ |

Thanks Romadog. I saw your post on the 50th Forum too. Appreciate that, perfect.
Definitely the site I stumbled across before, but couldn't find it again! I think it looks so much better with that updated panel. Another job to get going on! Thanks for that g-mack, I will drop a PM to paulMC. ex-MY1998 Defender 50th GB343 5.0L JE Supersports MY2000 TVR Griffith 500 MY2003 TVR Cerbera SP6 |

Might as well upgrade the speedo and gauges too while you're at it, far superior backlighting on the later ones.

Cold Start Issues
I have finally finished ski holidaying and it's time to find my cold start issue! (Also sending the Speedo off to Cluster Repairs, to fix the intermittent LCD display....time to get all these jobs done!). The engine starts up no problem. Jumps to 1500rpm and sits there (my TVR -Rover V8- does the same, but quickly normalises to 900-1000rpm within minutes). The Defender just stays there, no matter how long you leave it or drive it from cold. Only when you turn off and restart when it's warm/hot will it start and then sit correctly at 900-1000rpm. So something is at fault. I searched on here, and have read various posts. The stepper valve and hole has been cleaned, as I've had the same before on my TVR (no change). I replaced the stepper (no change). There was also mention of vacuum leaks, but seems pipes are okay, unless I'm missing a pipe connection or two. - Does anyone have a good diagram showing the vacuum pipes to check? - The air intake pipe (being so long thought maybe split) seems okay (btw, anyone know where you can get a replacement if needed? seems to be obsolete now). - Failing that, does this sounds like a failed sensor somewhere? Not sure which ones to check. Maybe vacuum pipes are not sealing correctly until things get hot and expand, then the hot restart is all okay. Appreciate any pointers or ideas, suggestions. A process of elimination I think ex-MY1998 Defender 50th GB343 5.0L JE Supersports MY2000 TVR Griffith 500 MY2003 TVR Cerbera SP6 Last edited by Aaron on 5th Apr 2016 11:00am. Did you get to the bottom of your issue? I have exactly the same problem with my 50th at the moment.

Thanks for the PM Albert
Just for the thread, so far I have changed the Coolant Temperature Sensor (ETC8496) and it has not resolved the problem. I will check the exhaust brackets, although planning to have a new DoubleSS manifolds and system fitted anyway. In the meantime I should also have the Speedo back today so I can refit. ex-MY1998 Defender 50th GB343 5.0L JE Supersports MY2000 TVR Griffith 500 MY2003 TVR Cerbera SP6 |
