Sensational,...a 50th with a JE 5L engine,...a combination that would be hard to beat.
What are the specs of the engine, & what sort of 5L is it?...L.R. based?..Power & torque? You've done well. Pickles. |

Thanks all. I have been out burning fuel all afternoon...makes a great sound!
The engine was upgraded in 2003 by JE Engineering in Coventry. The catalogue at the time shows the performance options available and were based around Land Rover products and the Rover V8 engines. I have a copy in the history, and for those interested, here are the details and specifications that were available... Defender Conversion Options September 2002 Petrol V8 packages: (1) SPORT 'Top End' Cylinder Heads and Manifolds: delivering 12-14bhp gain, available as a kit or fitted. -gas flowed heads balanced combustion chambers, large JE inlet and exhaust valves and 'high flow' shaped seats, together with gas flowed inlet manifold and larger air horns. (2) JE 4.6L 'Short Engine': delivering power output of 220bhp and 380Nm (280Lb.ft) torque. -specially machined pistons -all parts lightened, balanced and blueprinted to competition tolerances -reprogrammed engine ECU (3) JE 4.6L SPORT: delivering power output of 235bhp and 400Nm (295Lb.ft) torque. -4.6L short engine (as per (2) above) -Sport cylinder heads and intake system (as per (1) above) -a fully re-programmed engine ECU (4) JE 5.0L SUPERSPORTS 'Short Engine': delivering 240bhp and 425Nm torque. -fully floating forged pistons fitted to 'H' section steel con-rods -specially machined 'tuftrided' long stroke rank -all parts lightened, balanced and blueprinted to competition tolerances -reprogrammed engine ECU (5) JE 5.0L SUPERSPORTS 'Complete Engine': delivering 275bhp and 440Nm torque. -5.0L short engine (as per (4) above) -Sport cylinder heads and intake system -a fully re-programmed engine ECU The owner of GB343 went all out and specified option (5)! Plus uprated brake discs and pads. Total bill of just over £9k. ex-MY1998 Defender 50th GB343 5.0L JE Supersports MY2000 TVR Griffith 500 MY2003 TVR Cerbera SP6 |

So yours has the best option at the time!
I've seen the advertisements for J.E., & whilst not cheap, certainly have an air of quality about them. How many miles has the JE engine done? Any further upgrades planned? Very jealous, from the land of V8s, Pickles. |

The JE engine has done about 28k miles....the total mileage is 51k now. I think the only planned upgrades will be interior and small cosmetic refurbishment as and when required. The supplying dealer H.R.Owen London fitted electric windows and central locking from new, so that's a bonus. I need a new fuel gauge - the good old damper has gone, nice and bouncy at times (they all do that sir.....). The previous owner also changed the seats when it was converted in '03, but I might update those (following Ken's 50th project on the exmoor elite in matching standard cloth). Otherwise, I think it's pretty much perfect as it it - the safari cage, a-bar, NAS step, alloys, side-steps - I think LR really nailed it with this edition straight out the box! There's a chap on the 50th forum who was producing perfect reproductions of the numbered plate on the NAS console if yours is worn

Great, thanks for that. I'm over on the 50th Forum too. Mine isn't too bad at the moment, but that is good to know - I will have a search.
