IIRC the dealers have stuck some Forte in mine at service time. Steve.

Eutek,
From reading around the subject all the money seems to be on changing oil at circa 6k, rather then going the distance. I guess it will make no difference for the first 100k, but....... if you want to pull 200 to 300k out of the engine, regular oil changes are the only way forward. This this the article I couldn't find last night from the Oilman web site.
It certainly put me off adding anything to my engine/gearboxes/axles http://www.opieoils.co.uk/pdfs/tech-articl...itives.pdf Defender 90 TD5 Station Wagon Discovery 3 HSE BMW 330i Coupe |

Would Castrol Actevo 2T spec JASO FC,API TC, ISO L-EGC be suitable to mix with the diesel?. Have been thinking of trying this but have been looking for the correct 2 stroke. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

after growing up in the states and leaving some 5 years ago, ( I'm almost 40!) The tele always had on the commericials of these guys trying to sell their oils, I must admit, it was pretty convincing most of the time. Thanks for the link. I enjoy the part where he says, "Having said that, if you start the engine and let it idle for 15 seconds or so before moving off, you can probably add another 100,000 miles to your engine's life without one bottle of additive. This warms the oil up a tad and makes sure it's in all the most vital areas before you start putting a strain on the engine." Does this mean that if I let my car idle for 5 minutes I can get (15x4)=60x100000miles=6000000 milesx5=30000000? probably not, but it would be pretty cool huh? Yep, JASO-FB or FC are fine, but DONT use synthetic 2-stroke!
As a rule of thumb, one should always idle any engine for 30s or so, and then drive at a leisurely pace (not revving too hard) until the engine is at operating temperature. |

I got into a debate with a few other people on that very issue...leave your car to idle for a few seconds in the cold or drive off/accelerate straight away. The leave for a few seconds was to get things running around the engine etc The drive off straight away was to push oil around the engine via the pump quicker. For each of those there seems to be a supporter... Mike |
