when changing gear do you get like a little buzz from the engine as if there's a tiny amount of over boost (I would guess its for the moment where the boost rate / actuator adjusts things and for this moment the engine is silky smooth like a little electric motor)?

well when mines like that it's a dream to change gear and the buss / induction noise sound great (not load just a nice little buzz).....

problem is it's not always like this. I've been meaning to do it for ages - check the wiring to the turbo to see if there's a slightly high resistance due to a poor / intermittent fault?

any other ideas?


Dunno Wayne, I tend just to get in and drive mine in the same manner as any other vehicle - as part of daily life - I've enough to worry about elsewhere without looking upon Defender noises and quirks as a source of over analysis and endless conjecture. Steve.

Wish we could sell 'ours' sometimes. Doubt if we'll miss him nearly as much?

I would miss Caterham, if only for the reason that after reading his many problems he makes me feel delighted that I do not suffer from his many Defender related problems. Very Happy For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I would never ever have the patience that Caterham has shown with his vehicle. Ours has never let us down in the breakdown sense but it's now off the road again this time with aircon probs. Expensive they will be as well as they've had to take the dash apart and they still can't find the leak! Crying or Very sad
The Cooks 24 year old Camry has never had aircon probs, axle probs or any other of the horde of "quirks" which plague these things. And not just Deafeners either.
I've wanted to get rid of her car for years, but it comes in handy for going to and from the stealer.

so if it is now sorted (other than perhaps the restrictor valve on the clutch - strangely the clutch has gone smooth in the cold weather and other than the drivers door locking solenoid struggling) it's taken just over 5 years Crying or Very sad ....on the plus side however my long standing issue over injector knocking sound and just recently when the weather turned what appeared to be glow plug issues all seems to be resolved now the fuel filter is properly fitted (ooops) Whistle

I'm thinking there was nothing wrong with the injectors. the noise I was getting was like the sound of heavy injector knock. fitting the fuel filter properly APPEARS to have cured the problem - I'm assuming it was letting air in?

I can't say for sure but something you all might want to double check?

I couldn't hear a 'click' as is suggested on the side of the fuel can. what I intend to do is mark the can and 'measure' what is fully on to off.

I suggest it's quite vague to determine what is and isn't fully fitted (unless for some reason mine was just a poor fit - but doubt it)?

Well, I'm glad to hear that the "Caterham Scale of Frustration" currently seems to have abated to very low levels, and you get more satisfaction from your vehicle.

The scale itself is something I use to measure my own frustrations Very Happy
But I'm currently pretty happy with it.

Are you sure the position of the sunvisors are not having an effect on all the problems over the years? I mean have you noticed any correlation between visor up and visor down and number of issues you perceive exist? After all they are connected to the vehicle as are all the other mysterious semi problem and defective components, maybe having the visors up / down / midway stresses the feng shui balance of the whole machine? Steve.
