Handbrake stuck on this morning. After 10 minutes rummaging around under the car I opted for plan b and just rocked back and forth in low range until it released.
Anyone got any suggestions on how best to adjust/grease/hit with ever-larger hammers to prevent this please? And yes, an x-brake will be on the shopping list, just not yet Cheers! I was always told to leave it off and park in 1st gear. If you park on snow or ice with ONLY the handbrake on all it will need is for one rear wheel to slip and you have a 2 Ton sledge. After submerging the handbrake drum in water or spray the shoes will rust to the cast iron drum in next to no time. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

correct, if its left in gear though and no handbrake it still only needs one wheel to slip for it to be able to move. in gear in diff lock in would be one wheel on the front and one on the rear axle to slip at the same time for it to move. (still no handbrake) best practice is handbrake and in gear. in the cold weather i just leave mine in gear with no handbrake. i suppose really i should put it in difflock too but then its on a level drive anyway. Thanks for the prompt replies. So in essence the damn thing will either rust to the drum or freeze to it. Ok, leaving in gear and saving for an x-brake it is then
