Hi Ryan,
I wonder if you could clarify please if all Defenders, even those manufactured in 2016, will be registered as 2015 vehicles? If not, can a MY16 vehicle scheduled for delivery in December 2015, have the registration delayed until 2016? Many thanks, Peter. YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

In the UK at least that would be via negotiation with your dealer.

I mean in the UK.
Another post on here has said JLR UK will be registering all Defenders as 2015. That kinda makes sense... YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

This post appeared on the 'Celebration Model' pages... hence my query! ALL new Defenders will now be MY16 model vehicles. This post made me then wonder IF JLR are now also 'registering' ALL new Defenders also in 2015... even if they are built on 2016. This seems most odd, hence my query! My Heritage in the UK arrives at my dealer in December. My dealer has told me it MUST be registered before the end of 2015. I have said I will pay him for it in full, but would also like to delay registration until 2016. He has said NO!!! I am bemused by this... Are his Dec sales figures linked to registration? Seemingly so. I am hoping Ryan can clarify please! YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

Seems dumb to me, you cant register a car until its built and delivered imo.
Also, the dealer must be just trying to hit his December targets by not allowing you to delay registration until you take delivery in January, I would be having some strong words with the dealer if it was me. Hopefully Ryan can sort this for you. |

You've hit the nail on the head here. They can't account for a car til its registered! So I'd imagine it is to do with hitting a target. |

I am fairly sure that you can't register a non-existent vehicle in anticipation of it being created at some time in the future.

Some Defenders are not being built till January so these cannot be registered in December. I think the issue is when your dealer wants to register the vehicle for his sale figures!

"Some Defenders are not being built till January"
It was previously intimated by JLR that all Defenders would be built before 20th December 2015 and would have to be registered before 31 December 2015. If one single vehicle comes off the assembly line after 1 January 2016, it makes absolute fools of everybody who bought one in 2015, "the last year of Defender manufacture". Peter |

I think it was announced in July that production was extended to early 2016.
I don't agree that those who bought in 2015 have been made fools though. |

Hi All,
I believe there is some confusion regarding this. The date of registration of the vehicle is determined by the selling retailer / vehicle purchaser and therefore as others have stated during this thread, will be affected by when the sale is completed and not be determined by Land Rover as a manufacturer. The 16MY Defender is the final Model Year of the existing Defender and is scheduled to cease in January 2016. I note there have been comments regarding the final year, however when referring to vehicles, please note a Model Year does not run January to January and as such, it remains that the existing Defenders being built will continue to be 16MY vehicles. Kind regards, Pete |

Semantics.... in years to come we'll be saying: Defender production ceased in 2016. Ooooh, I've got one for sale that was built and registered in 2015. But it's a 2016 "Model Year"!

Only Land Rover's own website is still showing models with this badging:
Will these be revised for both models that are getting the heritage badging or maybe just for those produced in Jan 2016? |

hi, just to confirm re the above, I have a new Defender 90 ordered since last July, got an email today from the dealer asking re registration as its now ready for collection. As its so late in the year and as I wont be travelling over to collect her till Jan anyway (I am in Ireland but could only order in England), I asked could they hold off til registering it till Jan. To which they replied it had to be registered by the 31st Dec. Just double checking that this is not a requirement of Land rover? To yere knowledge this should be possible?
