Yeah.......bloody progress eh?
Did wonder about it holding revs which demands learning to drive with backwards facing baseball cap! Can a reprogramme make it act like a diesel?
Otherwise the cabin much nicer, but climate control either hot or cold........give me a temperature knob and directional one back please.

In Italy there is a LR official recall for this problem
Just done on my def 2013 one week ago
Changed oil pump , some oil tube and the sump.

Have 2014 2.2 puma.

The oil pressure light goes out quickly, within 1 second when starting.

Mine was outside of the affected VIN range for the oil pump replacement.

I would recommend having a word with your dealer, 3seconds sounds quite slow.

The oil pressure light is one thing (that goes out quickly... Mr. Green ), but what about the "warning" message on the odometer display? Is the message which is displayed for a couple of seconds just a "test message" or does it mean something when it's showing up at the engine start? That's my question.... The oil service message that flashes up when the engine is first started and then disappears is the service timer. It's set to go off as a reminder at 12 month or 12000 mile intervals.

If the oil service message flashes up and then stays on it is an alert to advise that an oil change is due to interrupted DPF active regenerations.
If the regeneration cycle is interrupted more than 5(?) Times in a row then the message shows up and stays as an oil change is very strongly recommended due to the risk of diesel dilution of the engine oil during interrupted regeneration cycles.

Rang dealer who supplied first owner with mine and it's booked in to have pump changed under recall. They also do one of the inter cooler hoses apparently.
Does the engine go through the dpf cycle automatically?

Mine seems to actively regenerate its DPF once a tank of fuel, around every 250miles of combined cycle driving. It doesn't seem to regenerate on long journeys though, the higher flow rate of exhaust gas and higher temperatures for sustained periods regenerate it passively.

I'm not entirely sure what the trigger is for an active regeneration of the DPF, I suspect its probably triggered by increasing differential pressure across the DPF, that would seem logical.

After reading this thread a few weeks back, I noted that my oil light also takes approx. three seconds before going off. 54000 Km 2012 2.2. It wasnīt always that way, Iīm sure.
The oil pump recall was done in the spring, and after that, I remember the light going off quicker than it currently does.
Got me worried.
My oil service message was active, and I had a service lined up. The dealer said there is no connection between the oil service message and the reaction of the oil light. No inteigent electronics involved there! How refreshing!

After the service - new oil, the oil light took just as long to go off. The dealer offered to swap out the oil pressure sender with a new one - a two minute job. Job done, the oil light still takes its time, even after repeated switch off and restarts.
Dealer and I walk out to his own low mileage 110 2.2 demonstrator to see how quickly the oil light should go out.....and for the first time he discovers that even the oil light on his car takes three seconds to go out.

We laugh about it and decide there is nothing to worry about.....

That's reassuring for the future. Would like to know why the oil pump recall and specifics in cases of engine failure though.
Surely the Ford Transit is reliable otherwise it wouldn't be so successful?

I donīt know how to judge the oil pump issue. For quite a while they didnīt extend the recall to Eurpopean Defenders. Too few vehicle, and so even fewer cases of failure. Hereīs the thread...

My dealer hasnīt had an oil pump pack up, and did the recall on mine virtually on good will. I havenīt had any reason to doubt my current Defender, my first 2.2.
As is often said, when you see how the "white van man" drives his Transit, most privately owned Defenders are hardly being pushed to their limits, are they?

I'm having mine serviced at a garage dealing with Ford and LandRover.
Years ago Ford started the Oil Pump recall for the Transit TDCi 2.2. My garage worked on this, too, although they did not inform me. Subsequently, Land Rover started their recall a few months ago. That's exactly when I got the information about the recall. I had my pump replaced a few weeks ago.

I did not realize any problem with the oil pressure light by now.

My garage is perfectly skilled since they "have been trained" on the Transit engines Laughing
They have some kind of special Ford tool allowing for quick and precise work.
The sump is glued to the engine block. That's why they wanted mine in for one day at least. Enough time for the glue to harden. According to their experience with the Transit.

According to them a stepwize recall has been essential because there have never been enough oil pumps available.

Had my oil pump replaced two weeks ago...........oil light takes even longer to go out..!!!
Oil pressure switch faulty or it's normal?
