Climate control?
Very hot or very cold - regulate temperature by opening a window! And - a blast of hot air when turning a corner..... |

Welcome to a Defender
I have 2.2 - options with air con, on or off are scolding hot or ice cold. Can be quite laborious on a long journey of on and off, windows open, Windows closed I think it's just the at it is - you bought British engineering at its best so deal with it There is only so much luxury we can have |

I too am impressed by the amount of heat my 2.290s heater can throw out, at full blast it's like standing next to the open gates of hell!
The other setting is seems to be just "off" with just unheated outside air coming through the vents. I don't have air con, so can't comment on that. With a lot of fiddling (a 7hr drive to fort William on my own) I have found how to get it to maintain a steadyish temp. I turn the heater knob up from fully cold until I can feel resistance as it begins opening the valve, and then I turn it one or two knotches back. If it gets too stuffy I speed up the fan to 2 or 3, too cool and I slow the fan back down to 1. Seems to work best and doesn't involve too mush faffing, or opening and closing Windows. On mine at least, there seems to be a lot of backlash between moving the knob on the dash and operating the valve on the engine. Once the temp control is set I leave it alone, until the girlfriend gets in, complains it's cold when we're just setting off with a cold engine, turns it up to full and then complains it's burning her right calf..... Defender.....climate control......... ......nope, the only climate control is the person who can best reach the centre of the dash! |

It's using water from the engine cooling system so is linked to the load on the engine at any one time. If you charge up a hill it'll get hot, if you're coasting along it'll cool down. At a constant speed, on a motorway for example, you ought to be able to find a sensible setting. On my 2.4 it's six clicks from cold so once we're all warmed up I put it at six clicks from cold and go from there, maybe one more if I'm stuck in traffic or one less if the car is working.

I don't have that issue with my 90, its either on or off!
As mentioned earlier opening/closing window seems to be the adjustment! |

There was a LR "fix" for this on the 2.4 but I can't locate the details for it right now...

I have 2.2 with ac and mine seems to fluctuate.
I am constantly changing temp - it would be nice just to set it and leave alone Also mine blows a lot colder air out of passenger side than drivers. Had it serviced recently and dealer said they checked it with a infra red thermometer and only 3 deg diff. When I set at cold the passenger side mid vent is cold and drivers feels almost burning and never is cold. Still don't think this is right |

Here is the link to that thread with all the details about the JLR proposed fix... Which you will read is for the more courageous amongst us. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic1090.h...p;start=15 I opted out in the end as you can read in mine below of now almost 4 years ago...
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |
