I've seen them advertised 80/20% on and offroad! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I would tend to agree that GG's or the Bridgestones, or whatever boots one has on their rig, it comes down to how fast we are getting it on. I have only been slippy twice (accident aside) and neither was on the wet, both on the snow...rounding corners too fast...thinking I was king of the world in my defender! not this winter baby...
on slick rain soaked roads, I have had no problems whatsoever.... 2008 Defender 110 60 year Edition (sold unfortunately)

i do find this thread strange.
i have never had a problem with them. i don't race around in the 90 but i am not slow. i try and brake smoothly and on the occasions when i have had to brake hard [like last weekend when a tw@t pulled out in front of me] they have'nt slipped at all.

i might be lucky but i am so impressed by them.

the big kid in me is hoping for some snow Rolling Eyes Thumbs Up BM52

I fitted BFG ATs on monday to replace a set of Pro-Comp all terrains (they did 48K and i only swapped them as they'd hardened off after 4 years).

The BFGs are working fine with no complaints at all. Very Happy "If it ain't sideways, you just ain't tryin'!

To clarify - the BFGs haven't let go whilst I was driving like a tit. It's just that to me they feel much less stable once the roads are greasy, which is probably a product of 1) having Wintracs on the Disco3 which are a revelation, 2) being AT tyres they will naturally be affected by the wet road surface more than road tyres and 3) this being my first experience of ATs.

Thanks for the feedback - good to know that it's probably just me rather than the tyres!

Newby question! I'm thinking of investing in some BFG AT's. What tyre sizes do people use, 235's? I'm thinking of buying some ZU rims (16x7) and wondered what pople would recommend.

My vote would be for a 235/85/16 in a AT

or a 255/85/16 in a MT

I've only had the car a few weeks - most driving in the next few months will be on road, but want to get into modest off-road in 2011.

Hence the interest in BFG ATs.

you'll be fine with 235/85 but dont discount other cheaper tyres. BFGs seem to have some kind of god-like status but there are many others which would suit you fine.

I have had both M/T and A/T BFG's in 265 and in this weather i have total confidence in the M/T's whereas the A/T's are SCARY in snow. No comparison in low traction circumstances. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..
