It just preheats the coolant which in turn heats the block but you can do wire it in such a way that it also starts the heater motor so it warms the block and the cabin- albeit slower than if you were just heating the block as your loosing heat via the heater matrix.

I chose this one because I reckoned that having less wear on the engine by having a warm block would be better in the long run and the heater would still be warmer quicker than starting from stone cold.

Quick question regarding exhausts...


Does anyone have any reason as to why I could/should not route the exhaust down the wheel arch on the wheel side?

Or should I route it on the inside of the engine bay and out down the chassis rail to the floor?

I'm trying to work out what parts I'm going to need for exhausts weather to go solid pipe or flexipipe. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

I fitted mine down the side of the wheel arch .. No issues

Key thing with diesel heaters is to run them regularly all year round

Mines been good as gold for 4 years

it wont over heat the engine, you can run it in conjunction with engine but will be different flow rates

for your application you wont need the one way valve if ont feel

i haev had three of them in td5 and pumas all worked really well Cheers

Not updated this in a while but have got a fair amount done!

Firstly got the water pump for the webasto fitted and the webasto mounted onto a bracket, combined with the repositioned washer bottle.

You will see the water pump attached under the heater box (its a genuine webasto part but not as usually fitted and I cant see the logic in spending another £70 odd quid on a pump to replace a pump?

Also got the exhaust pipework loosely assembled, though it does read a bit like a Dr.Seuss book.

Out from the webasto and round a bend, over the intake then down a bend....

Down past the coolant pipe, next to the foot box, then under the flap and into the wheel arch....

Then out past the mudflap and along the outrigger, with a gentle bend...

Not sure Mo....

I haven't been able to sort the fuel line yet or the electrics to it but plumbing wise all seems happy and well Very Happy

I have actually now got the whole truck running so i have left it for now to allow running in the new head and any snagging but i am hoping now that 90% of it is done the final bits should be achievable in an afternoon.

Problem is Miss Shaggydogs 110 is require very urgent attention to its braking system on the front so that has been the priority for this week, thanks the rain though not much has happened on ether trucks Big Cry

But hey ho, were getting there.

One thing I have noticed since putting it all back together is that the 200Tdi heater blower is utter pants compared to the Td5 one. I will have to put a voltmeter on the plug and see what reading I'm getting as it feels like its hardly on at all on full blast despite all the flaps being correctly positioned. Bit pointless having a lovely warm engine block if the heater is too asthmatic to do anything with it Evil or Very Mad Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197
