I'm hoping to get it wired into a second battery so should have its own fused feed Very Happy

Just trying to find a nicer way to add a timer than the one supplied.

i would use that outlet/inlet on your tank and just drop a pickup in by using a bent tube with correct thread insert to mount it. try a plumber supplies etc. Cheers

Not had much to report on this thread however now the head is apart and she isn't going anywhere it has meant I can actually crack on with this.

I made a quick bracket up at work to support it which should give it nice stable base and am trying to figure out all the pipe connections.

2 things which cross my mind.

Firstly, what are the benefits of fitting a non return valve into the system like this?

Secondly, would a unused webasto setup make much difference in the running of the vehicle? Bit of an awesome day today.

As everything was apart I decided to take my heater box out so I could inspect my heater matrix properly.

Much to my pleasant surprise it looks brand new! The gasket however is toast so new gaskets on order but it did mean that I could rivet the bracket which holds the circulating pump in place which annoyingly I couldn't do because of the angle.

Then had a bit of a fiddle around with my Webasto which in a fashion Heath Robinson would be proud of (jam jar fuel tank, lunchbox coolant tank, electrical tape connections) It fired up into action and within 5 mins the coolant was piping hot and it was heating away merrily!

After it had cooled down I set to work making the bracket which it fixes too. I used the Windscreen Washer bottle mount and made my own adapter plate which allows the Webasto to mount to the windscreen washer bottle. This worked surprisingly As expected and the whole thing is nice and sturdy.

Now just waiting on the gaskets for the heater box assembly to go back in, so I can start the fuel, electrical and plumbing connections

Is this a different setup/type to the others normally seen located inside the cab area and blow heated air directly? Or have you found a more ingenious way to mount it?

Fancied a webcasts/eberspace but not keen on mounting it under the rear seat for fear of damaging when carrying longer loads

Hi Rosco,

I think what you are referring to is a air heater- this one is a coolant heater which pre-heats the engine coolant which helps with starting but more importantly in a Tdi it helps warm the engine up so the heater works quicker!

I did look at getting a air heater but I reckoned that as I want to go and do more snowboarding a block heater will be more useful and does the same job as an air heater but with the additional benefit of less wear on the engine components due to easier starting etc.

Time will tell once it is set up how successful it is but judging by my Heath Robinson set up it should work very very well! Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

Shaggy, realised the difference after a quick mooch around Webasto's website. Am I right in saying this system in effect provides hot air to the cabin without the engine running (although the ignition would be required to run the blower fan)? Or does it just pre-heat the block?
