Also looking to do this.
Surly going from the measurements, the above unit will not fit or am I missing something? |

I was checking the dimensions of the parrot asteroid,
7 x 3.93 x 4.49 Approximately 178 X 100 X 114 http://www.parrot.com/pdf/files/car/asteroid-smart/en.pdf Going by David's installation I guess this should fit. I do see a small difference in the measurement provided by Ahmed (173 as opposed to 178). Ahmed, can you confirm it is not a typo? |

Sorry for the late reply Arsath
Ok, today I removed the fascia and measured the opening from the back. It is 178mm.. The unit fits from the back and will not slide from the front opening because it is smaller at 173, so only the screen will show. My Asteroid is 100x178 and fits perfectly, so i am sure your unit will fit too Cheers |

Sorry to hijack a bit... but has anyone used one of these?
I'm thinking it should fit in the dash of my 2005 110? |

I am not sure about 2005 110 fascia, though the sellers says it fits 2012 on wards someone at below thread said, http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic25913.html it is the same from 2007 onward. I have ordered my double din fascia after much deliberation from Dynamic Sounds (eBay Store). fingers crossed!! , hopefully it will fit my 2011 Defender, otherwise 299 pounds down the drain unless I find a buyer.. if you share the dimensions of your current fascia, I will let you know the exact dimensions of the unit I ordered once I receive it in the weekend. |

Can you install any android app on it? The reason I ask is I use Sygic (I find it far superior to TomTom) and without that I wouldn't consider the Parrot. I've been looking for a nice double din unit for my wife's Defender and this looks it could be the one as long as I could purchase apps from Google Play and didn't have to get them all from the Asteroid store.
Thanks in advance. |

Update,
I have all the required pieces to put together my Double Din unit, (Fascia, and the CA-FI unit), as Ahmed pointed out above, the Fascia opening is slightly smaller in the front, due to this my CAFI unit wouldn't fit properly unless I make the opening wider by at least 2 mm from either side, considering what I paid for the fascia (290 pounds + shipping to UAE + tax) it is giving me chills at the moment. any suggestions from the experts are most welcome.. I am trying to contact my car audio specialist to see if something could be done.. @Chrispy Yes you can install any android app that would work on standard android OS, in terms of features it is one of the best, it's got everything one could imagine from car stereo and a lot more. with the exception of volume control and having to root the system to install Google Play, if Sygic is available on Amazon App Store then you can install it without having root the system. below is the system I am going for. Android without any restrictions, read good reviews about it.. fingers crossed until I test it out.. the main reasons for considering this unit over the Parrot was the volume controls and unavailability of Google Play store as standard, you have to root it and side load Google Play before you are able install anything. There are after market USB volume controls that could be added. |

Hi all,
I've installed this unit, I must say it is not a perfect fit, though the sizes specified were same as Parrot asteroid, it was slightly bigger than that; 2mm off on all four sides to be exact.. I had to file the opening in the fascia to get it fixed (as you can imagine not a pleasant experience) . I am not 100% happy with the fitting. But the performance of the system is unmatched.. will post more info once I have replaced all the speakers with newer ones. Right now my rear speakers are not working (it never worked since I've owned it), I need to get all of it fixed and do some sound proofing , will keep you guys posted. |

How many manufacturers of the double din fascists are there now? I've heard of Nakatanenga & Bearmach. Anyone else?
I want to make sure I'm getting the best one since they're so much coin... |

Well...
Twisted probably do the best one as it is the only one with the vents and clock housing in one, all others you have to cut your existing console. However it costs about £600 and last time I looked was only in the gloss black finish. After that I think they are all the same. I have the £300 ish one that was the only option about a year ago but have also seen the latest ones at about half that and could not tell the difference. So, if you cant face cutting your own dash, don't mind the gloss black (or repainting) and have money to burn, then go Twisted. Otherwise just buy the cheapest one you can find |
