Hi Hairysteve, your 110 looks superb. I suspect you may have machine polished possibly using the DS06 polisher? I haven't plucked up courage to use a machine polisher on my Defender yet as I am not confident that JLR put enough paint on, particularly with it having lots of edges as opposed to most modern cars having gentle curves.

I'd be interested to know how you found the DS06 (if in fact you used it).

Hi Discomog, you are spot on I did use the DS06 and ads a complete novice (only arrived in my possession on Saturday) I was really impressed how easy it was to use (even with edges as the pads shaped around them) and by just following simple instructions was able to achieve these results.

In actual fact I am so happy with the DS06 that i am planning on using it on my BMW 330D Xdrive (F31) which is only 9 months old and keen to see what results are going to be like Cool

Cheers

Steve

I'm into this also... Thumbs Up

Once a year, normally around Autumn, take off the stuff that washing alone just wont touch,
and then give it its winter wax / polish...

Have stuck with Autoglym over the years, on the basis that it really does work well,
i'm pleased that Devon-Rover has a collection to rival mine... Exclamation

The darker the vehicle the better, but all will benefit from this if your paintwork is 'rough'
to the touch.

Unlike a cutting compound (however fine the grade) Clay more or less just removes what
you don't want, and is the ideal prep' prior to applying an 'expensive' polish.

The 356 is my brothers, and on a the right day... Mr. Green

I use clay twice a year,in spring to prep for summer and in autumn to prep for winter.I like the 3m clay mitt http://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-clean...-clay-mitt for convienience, but prefer actual clay for thourghoness. As with most things in life preparation is EVERYTHING,wax or sealant sticks best to a properly clean surface.
As for "what wax",you can't go wrong with much these days, the fact you can get truely fantastic paint protection/finish costing a couple of quid in Tesco (when it's on offer) that only needs quickly applying every few weeks after a wash and will only take a few minutes of your time (wipe on wipe off, like mr Sheen). Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

Great thread. As a keen detailer it great to hear other defender owners enjoy waxing and polishing theirs. Have spent today machine polishing and applying a sonus ION sealant and tomorrow will be two coats of wax on top to keep the dreaded winter salt at bay Very Happy 2015 HT XS 90

Didn't need to worry about washing my Defender for the first 12 months I owned it because it got a valet every time it was in for warranty work Laughing
