I see that's an FC job, whereabouts? Got Dick Bros on one of my sites at the moment working for Egger. Spent most of today at a winch site elsewhere though:

Another unsuccessful Army applicant here! I was medically discharged six weeks before commissioning into the Royal Artillery.

Censored about for a year, during which my primary decision was that I didn't want to work in London in an office. I joined Thames Valley Police in 2003, which has been fantastic. I spent 5 years on a Response team going to every imaginable incident that the Police deal with. I then specialised by joining Roads Policing (the old Traffic department) which was also hoofing fun - but of course got to see some fairly spectacular sights as well. I was promoted 18 months ago and spent a year running a Response team. I'm now working as a Custody Sergeant in a meduim-sized market town, which is a great role that I'm really enjoying. My wife is in the Job as well.

I'm toying with the idea of starting a business building oak framed garages, porches and garden offices. I built a four bay oak garage in our garden earlier this year which I really enjoyed - but I need to decide whether to sacrifice my current (very) stable job for something much more rewarding and with no night shifts!

Si, you struck lucky. Getting MD'd before joining the dropshorts was a blessing.

When I'm asked nowadays by people what their son/daughter should do when they join the Army I give the same advice. Either find another career or choose a position/Corps that gives you an education/job that you can use on the outside.
The Army only cares for you when you are giving to them, when it's their turn to give to you, they fail.
Just need to look at the news recently to see that. Benefits and ToC's are being eroded faster and faster 110 D250 SE HT

Printer. That's it really, no exotic pictures or anything. Printing, day after day. Loads of it. Started printing Christmas crap back on July 1st when we had that boiling hot day. Talk about depressing, high summer and we started our run up to Christmas.

Nothing glamorous here either .... Rolling Eyes

Left School in 76 with a basic education, did a few menial 'bit' jobs for money until I could join up at 17.
Spent 11 years in Army [Infantry soldier] until discharged in 88 due to reoccurring injury [right knee - still plays me up to this day]
Then went to work for a large national company maintaining their huge fleet of vehicles. Large workshops where we covered anything from cars to artics, and did everything in house, servicing, repairs, spraying, bodywork/accident repairs, safety inspections, MOT's, rebuilds, etc etc. Fantastic times, great craic, every day was like a playday. Cool
We gave up MOT's [and hence my nominated tester status] when equipment needed upgrading. Company decided it wasn't worth it - Mainly as we had to be open to the public for MOT's too, and that constantly got in the way of in house work! After that MOT's were outsourced to a local company.

11 years ago transferred to a company contracting to the UK's largest fleet leasing company. Mobile vehicle inspector.
I now work from home [company is Yorkshire based] with my trusty van, travelling to various locations inspecting/ servicing/ MOT'ing vehicles owned by said lease company.

Not as much fun, but plenty of time to myself, no 9 - 5 hours, start and finish times to suit the workload Thumbs Up Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

Yup, ex-SSE. Very useful, loads of storage space, HD chassis, PTO winch, high mileage, but well maintained. Dirty Deeds - Done Dirt Cheap

Yes, FC job - C&T FD. Dick Bros seem to be everywhere! Winch sites have some great views, just the walk up the hill that I don't like. We do bits and pieces in South Scotland, most recently a bit of DNB surveying. We'll go anywhere really, if the right bit of work comes up. Are you in Galloway or DumBo? Dirty Deeds - Done Dirt Cheap

Noooo, Chippenham Motor Company. Ironically I did a number of years ago get a 2nd interview with Lovett's for their corporate sales team. I'd just accepted another job with a different non motor industry company so didn't go for the interview. I always wonder what would have been. 2015 Audi Q3 Quattro S Line Plus 184 TDI Stronic
