First, contact DVLA ask for form V-765
Fill that in, and send any info you have that links the reg no to that vehicle. Mines on DSV at the moment, a typical age related plate. But the first entry on the buff log book was 401 HOE It was the registered DSV in 84, I think it dropped of the radar when DVLA came about? I also had one mot as 401 HOE So I had a good bit of proof that the reg belonged to the Land Rover. Your probably a member of the S2 club? Do you have a registration officer? As you will need a club member to have the details verified. Most classic car clubs/owners clubs offer this service. You will have to send colour photos, back and front of the complete vehicle. Give chassis no, engine no, and as much info as you can regarding original reg which sounds like you have. Also colour copies of log books, mots etc! I think a V55/5 form comes in to play somewhere? But the S1 registration officer dealt with that part. It sounds a bit of a faff, but it's quite straight forward really! As long as the old reg is no longer in use, you should be able to get it re issued. Obviously it's non transferable, but nice to have proper reg again. Good luck 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

I am a member of the Series 2 Club and will be speaking to the vehicle registrations officer to get their assistance with the V765.
I've spoken to the DVLA again and the they agree that the continuation log book is clearly the first registration, it has the correct chassis and engine numbers on it and I have an unbroken chain of evidence in the applications to transfer a registration mark that PGV is now YSL. This should all be submitted with a V765 application to register a vehicle under its original registration number. |

Well it's exactly 12 months ago that I bought YSL. Never would have imagined the amount of effort or cost, even allowing for a generous under-estimation! Still the to-do list grows ever shorter and just for fun, here's a before and after with one of the first pictures I took before stripping it down:

I know all about that, I can't put anything back on mine that's serviceable, without buying new. I even bolted the heater box to the bulkhead, then it's played on my mind to replace the heater matrix since.....It's on my 'buy' list now!! |

Hiya Venomator, the base green is Land Rover's 'Pastel Green' colour. And to milesr3, your thread has had me thinking naughty things, like stripping mine down at some point; as I'd love to get the chassis and bulkhead better protected against any possible future rust. Most cars look best with a mint, shiny paint job on them, but Landys (imho) look better when they're showing their age. Somehow, once an old Landy has been restored and repainted, you can no longer tell if the starting point was a really nice, straight, well cared for Landy -or a beaten up, rusty old piece of... In short, you've struck an inspiring balance between maintaining what it was, whilst still dramatically improving it. |

I made a start on the door tops, unpeeling the aluminium skins from the new pair and priming them with electrox as they were bare metal in the inside:
Click image to enlarge Then re-attached the old skins, worn down to the metal by an elbow, to the new frames with a coat of dynax s-50 inside: Click image to enlarge Also got the floor panels etch primed, two coats of enamel on and back in: Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

Not too much progress this weekend due to other priorities, but I did manage the get the aluminium skin back on the passenger door top:
Click image to enlarge The lower section of the skin was a tight fit as it was on the driver's side. I measured the bottom part of the SP frame and it is 3mm taller than the original. Hence it is necessary to open the lower return right out and re-bend it around the bottom of the frame. This can be tricky if the aluminium is corroded and brittle as it was on the driver's side. The passenger side went back together well and you can just see a little more of the unpainted underside now along the lower edge: Click image to enlarge Anyway it's a bit of a milestone I suppose, as the bodywork is all now back on and there is nothing else that needs painting: Click image to enlarge My to-do list is quite short now; re-riveting the fuel filler, wiring the rear lights, fixing the floor panels in place, wiring the wiper motor, glazing the windows, fitting the door seals, canvas and I have a new fuel pump to fit. Quite a productive day. I glazed the door tops using the old glass, re-riveted the fuel filler neck and got the canvas on:
