thanks Shamblers
unfortunately mine isn't clutch related it does it during steering and suspension movement or when braking / accelerating and can be felt through the floor, I think its body/chassis fixing related rather than steering or suspension and tightening a load off loose bolts in the floor area has reduced it, my Mrs recons that from the passenger seat the noise is behind the dash but from the drivers seat it feels like its in the floor. I did have the clutch spring squeak issue but some spray grease sorted that. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

so what exactly is being bolted to the chassis with that bolt cos my initial interpretation was that the floor plate was bolted to the chassis but it clearly isn't. the floor plate is cut around the bolt?

Mine was the coils in the clutch pedal spring rubbing together. A dash of 75w90 fully synthetic gear oil and quiet as a mouse for nearly two years. (Gear oil because it does not dry out) 1953 80"

This is going to sound like i'd moan even if I won the lottery.....but....
I've had issues since day one, some have come and gone but the clutch related problems have never completely gone away. Something (clutch pedal, transmission mount, clutch?) felt like it broke, moved into alignment and now no problem changing ie it doesn't feel like the clutch is dragging when changing as you can blip th engine revs, vibrations in gearbox are gone? I should and am happy but what the hell is it as I have a feeling it ain't going to last? |

I have had exactly the same symptoms for a couple of months and diagnosis was virtually impossible because the problem only began after about 30 miles - probably when the floor area around the handbrake began to get warm. I tried pedal lubrication, seat runners, handbrake and floor panels but to no avail.
I lifted the floor mats and located the bolt mentioned by Keith and it was loose. I tightened it up and the corresponding one on the passenger side and BINGO! - no more creak. You are a genius. |

My clutch is feeling a little creaky / rough at the top of the travel, I checked the bolt beneath the handbrake, and sure enough it was very loose, so I've tightened it up.
Sadly the creaky feel is still there, so I'll take a look at the other suggestions for the cause. |
