Buzzing EGR solenoids
This evening I fitted an EGR delete kit to my 2005 TD5. All fitted fine but I have a buzzing from both solenoids on the drivers side inner wing. It doesn't start when the engine is first started, but starts when the engine is revved up and continues after that. There is also a strong vibration coming from both solenoids. I have blanked off the pipes on the solenoid using rubber plugs provided in the kit, and they appear to be a snug fit. Any ideas what may be causing this?

Having done this mod myself recently, but not experiencing the buzzing, I can only suggest that you may have blanked off the wrong ends? I certainly don't mean to be anything but helpful, but I found my instructions a bit vague, and I initially took off the wrong pipes, although I noticed before completing.

I'm sure that there are plenty of forum users who will know exactly what it is!

Hi Will

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm pretty sure I did the right pipes - I fitted a kit from the same supplier on my old 110 and compared which outlet I had disconnected on that one. The solenoids on the old 110 are completely silent and you can't feel any vibration on them. On the newer car the vibration is such that I'm expecting to find ladies pressing themselves against the inner wing before too long Cool

When I removed my EGR I disconnected the vacuum supply where it connects to the main vacuum line then completely removed the solinoids, it won't bring any faults up and it tidy's the engine bay up abit.

Sounds like a plan but I don't have a clue which pipe is the main vacuum line, and what do you do with the other 2 pipes on each solenoid? Confused

From memory, the main vac hose (rigid, black plastic thing) runs from the vac pump (front left of the engine as you look at it from the front) to the brake servo at the back left of the engine bay - with a T off to the EGR modulators/solenoid things........you will have blanked off the part of the 'T' that goes to the EGR gubbins.

When I removed my EGR, I got a replacement vac hose (from IRB I think) - its a genuine part, made for Td5's that don't have EGR valves..........so it doesnt have the 'T' in it !

Other than the small diameter pipe from the EGR valve to the modulators/solenoid things and one electrical multiplug connector, there's no other connections (apart from the small pipes linking the modulators) - so remove the modulator/solenoid things completely in one piece. Td5 110 HD Hardtop.......not quite standard Smile
