Just found out that Winter is coming !
We've been out camping in the waggon reguarly this year and want to keep on camping over the winter - but had a bit of a shock last week in the new forrest.... first sharp forst of the year..burrr! My wonderful better half was not too impressed .. so requested some overnight heat next time please! So what is the best overnight heater for the waggon (110 XS Dormobile) ...... ?? Where can I get said heater for a good price (ie cheap!) and how easy is it to fit to a puma ..(bearing in mind that I'm a nurse and not a mechy type) (I hear that ex-BT waggons have heaters fitted and some times are avalible .. anyone done this? ) Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |

Hello,
I have also fitted a D2 Eberspacher, they are expensive but are very good at what they do. I considered getting a second hand one but after looking around decided its probably best to buy new from a UK supplier to get a 2 year warranty. I did read in the booklets the combustion chamber needs replacing every 10 years so if your s/h one is already 5 years old... I fitted mine in the cubby box and made a 3 way piece for distribution, 1 x 60mm and 2 x 44mm. The 44mm pipe can extent to the rooftent for winter camping. The exhaust now no longer clamps to the side of the car exhaust but connects into it for silencing and routing the gas to the rear rather than just underneath. Worked well this week in Wasdale Steve |

Hi Steve,
looks great - thanks for the info - going to go and do some sums & see what I can come up with ... I think that I may fit one in the cooker unit at the back of the waggon or under the nearside passanger seat - both are good for electical and fuel connenctions and are able to feed hot air into the living areas easily. I like the idea of feeding heat into the roof tent - as I may feed heat into an awning for our winter cooking and trips to nothern scandinavia...( funny we were thinking of trips to Morrocco and air conditioning last winter!! ) It's a shame as Dormobile offerd fitting one when I had the first convertion on our old TD5 - it was a bit pricy though and we had spent a heap of dosh for the convertion so diden't take it up. Thanks Wyvern,
I thought about the rear door too, but couldn't decide how to do the exhaust and with the opening/closing of the door it may fatigue the fuel line/wiring. I like the idea of having it all in 1 box like sonics so you can remove it easily for use elsewhere. Mine is part the way, I would just need to get a separate fuel tank and pulse pump. The cubby box comes out in 5 mins complete with all electrics (if you have the key to unlock it ) Another way would be to remove the gearbox cover panel ( cubby box sits on it ) and turn it into a sunken box, there is room underneath ) very nearly went with that. Here is the modified exhaust.. |
