I just wanted to jump in and say how much I've enjoyed this thread. As someone who owns a corris grey 90 with std boosts, I'm actually heading towards either grey blindos or when my lottery numbers come up - bowlers...
Thanks for all the photo shopping! Defender Puma 2.2 XS 90 Vespa GTS 300 Way too many racing bikes. |

I'm still going to stick with the ZU recommendation. They are the best looking by far as they are the least common. The dual finish never do really do anything for me and IMHO polished wheels with lacquer and a Defender don't really go together, the finish can degrade easily or the lacquer goes 'milky' once compromised with water. Sawtooths? They appear to be the latest 'must have' be they original or not and seem to be becoming as common as boosts.
The black Mach 5s have sold. Stick with the ZUs and they won't cost you a penny. Why do you want to change? Is it just boredom? I just changed colour.....if you don't like it, change it back. Anthracite ZUs perhaps?....get photo twiddling! I too swapped for lettering on the inside. Click image to enlarge If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Cheers Mal, I know you're right
I think I'll get them spun round this week to get rid of the lettering and see how I go, and yes' I guess I'm just bored, if they do get scratched at all I might get them powder coated in a dark grey, but I think i'll stick with them for now. |

Hi Lambley,
I think you're making the right decision personally. I too was bored and purchased a second set as they came up at a good price, I didn't 'need' them but just fancied a change. As you know I then drastically changed the colour to blue on the second set. Just about everyone has silver, black, anthracite or grey. I then realised having two sets of expensive wheels was a waste, especially being the same style, so I knocked one set on. If you're happy with the style you can have whatever colour you wish. Personally with your black Defender the black ZUs go perfectly. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Holy resurrected thread, Batman!
Having a similar debate on my 90 - want to change the Challengers for something with a more sensible offset - thinking either black Boost, or Black Sawtooth. Decisions, decisions. Theme of the truck is black and green - so white or grey wheels defo don't work.... leaning towards black Sawtooth... thoughts?1? Click image to enlarge Out of interest - whats the offset on the ZUs pictured? They don't look much different to the Challengers? |

@ Dave S quick forum search reveals ZU details....
11mm offset. 1400kg rating. 10.4kg each. TüV approved and meets or exceeds UK - European - U.S.- Canadian - Australian - South African and Japanese wheel manufacturing specifications. Uses standard Land Rover alloy wheel nuts. Easy to balance. Fits all Defenders, Discovery I and Range Rover Classic. Manufactured in the UK. @Martin.... Stig Fastener passenger and driver door hinges (don't think they do them anymore), YRM safari rear door hinges, OX4X4 bonnet hinges and bulkhead brackets.....all stainless and worth it in my opinion as all the OEM ones will eventually degrade as mine did! I'm not a fan of the Challenger wheels but the style of them is good, what about anthracite Zu's? I know you say black but they do go well with green.... Click image to enlarge Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |
